Battlestar Galactica: Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part 1

BSG 112Episode 112 - BSG gets better with each episode and it is thoroughly depressing to know this season will be over next week. Part 1 of the two week season finale was intense to tsay the least. Plotlines that have taken a long time to build came to conclusions in the opening few minutes as Helo discovers his Sharon is a cylon, shoots her and runs off on Caprica.

On Galactica, Starbuck and Gaius are getting it on when she calls out Lee Adama's name in bed. Needless to say that kills the mood and reveals the fact that not only is Starbuck in love with Apollo, but Dr. Gaius seems to be in love with Starbuck. Quite a love triangle. Plus it pisses off No. Six something fierce. Good stuff.

Of course there's lots of plot too. Kobol is found, leading the President to think she indeed is fulfilling some prophecy. This goes against the pragmatic Adama and even the President's assistant. The drama circling this line between religious and secular segments is now getting interesting and makes some of the earlier religion based episodes make sense.

But nothing was better than the action sequence where three raptors are ambushed at Kobol, including one with Gaius on it. The scene's hysteria was excellently done. One of the most superb crash scenes in Sci-Fi television history actually. The of course you have the cliffhanger at the end with Starbuck following the President's instructions instead of Adama's orders. Next week can not come soon enough.

Don't forget the show puts up deleted scenes on their official website. You can get Episode 112's here, but doesn't this cut into future DVD sales?

Having suffered through four seasons of the brain rot that is Star Trek Enterprise, I'd forgotten how good sci-fi could be...or that it could be good at all. BSG is just awesome TV--a great drama that keeps getting better. Can't wait to see how the season finale wraps up...
