Today Show fires Cojo over Oprah flap

by David Thomas, posted Apr 22nd 2005 11:36AM
CojoFashion commentator Steven Cojocaru recently received a kidney transplant due to a serious disease. He planned a round of interviews including a spot on Oprah. But the Today Show, where Cojo worked, didn't like that idea and canned him. New kidney and all. Oprah expressed shock that she in any way could cause someone harm. "It's not worth losing your job!" She said to Cojo. Oh well, maybe Oprah can use a new fashion reporter. Oh and to the Today Show, that's just cold. Fire Cojo because he's annoying not because he's telling his harrowing story to Oprah.

This is 2012 and could you give an update on cojo? Hope he is doing okay. It would be nice if someone on ET could tell all of us about what and where he is at this time. You know just about if not everyone watches ET.

THANK YOU
CHAR

I just read on the internet that Cojo has lost his donated kidney! That makes me so sad. He is such an interesting and loveable person. I wish him the best. That darn %*#@! Today show! Speedy recovery Cojo! XXX

I'm so happy that Cojo is in good health. I wish him the best that life has to offer. The Today show should be ashamed for treating him so badly.

I have to admit that I am not one of CoJo's biggest fans, and was inclined not to watch Opra because of that reason. My wife and I Tivo all of Oprahs shows and pick the ones that we want to watch at the end of the week. We almost decided to delete it when we just said , "oh why not". I'm glad that we did watch because now I know that Cojo is more of a complete individual than I had previously thought. I say that it is NBC's loss to have fired him, and I wish him the best of luck in the future.

Not a big fan of Cojo's, but very insensitive of NBC.

I was leaning towards GMA anyway...Today show is too self promotional - Cujo always lightened stuff up though when he was on - made it fun. Big, big mistake letting him go.

That is really ashamed what Today Show did to Cojo just because of a couple of rating points. Today Show really needs to clean house and rebuild. The Golden Girl Katie Couric has played out. Matt is no better than Bryan Gumble. "The Where In The World Is Matt Lauer" NBC that has gotten old. You guys keep doing the same thing. I am bored with you and I am making the switch to "GOOD MORNING AMERICA" I hope ABC will pick up Cojo... In Your Face NBC =N asty B unc of C reeps.

My husband & I have watched Today every morning for many years, and we are terribly disappointed they "dumped" Cojo. Today was very insensative to have done such a thing. We have noticed Katie has become a bit of a control freak. We like Matt,Ann & Al a lot,and it is very noticable the show is a lot more lite hearted when Katie isnt there. After this bungle I think we will go to GMA. Sorry!

I watched Oprah yesterday and was appalled that The Today Show fired Cojo, the fashion guy. According to previous news reports, The Today Show is having rating problems. Well after the Oprah Show was telecast nationwide, Today sould have more problems with viewers then it ever had in the past. I have switched to ABC GMA for the most part but after this move by NBC, I will switch for good. The Today Show deserves whatever negativity it receives as far as I'm concerned. I hope Cojo comes back to haunt the whole NBC network.

I saw the Oprah show yesterday (not a regular viewer) and was shocked that the Today Show would do that. I mean, that's just WRONG! Unless for some reason it was in his contract that he couldn't do the Oprah show (which I doubt). He sounds like a resilient person though and should bounce back fine.
