Sorkin and Lowe to reunite

by Bob Sassone, posted Apr 25th 2005 11:29AM
Rob LoweJust because Rob Lowe left The West Wing during the fourth season doesn't mean he was made at creator/writer Aaron Sorkin (Lowe wanted more screen time and money and it was on the studio end that things broke down). Now Lowe and Sorkin are reteaming for another version of Sorkin's stage play A Few Good Men. You might remember it from the film version, responsible for every comedian in the world doing a "You can't handle the truth!" impression). Lowe will play the Tom Cruise role. The play opens on August 18 at London's Royal Theater Haymarket.

St. Elmo's rules, West Wing does not. He's better off.

Lowe went on record shortly after his departure, complaining not just about the lack of inclusion of his character in the "ensemble', but also of the weak writing of his exit story. To say there was no animosity there would be to gloss over the facts. In fact, Sorkin got is own shots in fairly early, when he claimed in Newsweek: Sorkin: ... Look, any writer writing for Rob has big shoes to fill. Youre looking at the specter of Atomic Train and Oxford Blues and St. Elmos Fire, and you try to live up to those standards, and sometimes you cant. Time Magazine: Im not sure if the record should reflect that youre being ironic. Sorkin: (Laughs) Whatever you like. Lowe's own revisionist history notwithstanding, it was never as simple or impersonal as stated here.
