Was that swearing on American Dad?

by Bob Sassone, posted May 5th 2005 1:57PM
American DadEllen Gray at the Philadelphia Daily News never comes out and says what word was supposedly uttered at the end of American Dad a few nights ago, and with the clues she gives I'm not quite sure she even knows what she is referring to. She says that the word is something that is sometimes said on Deadwood and The Sopranos, and that it ended with the word "Tuesday." Now, if she's talking about the word I think she's talking about, then it was the phrase "See you next Tuesday," which isn't a swear at all and only refers to another meaning (which we won't get into here, of course), and really wouldn't be that big of a deal. Anyone see American Dad and hear it?

The normal quote may be "See U Next Tuesday" but in the episode when Roger (the alien) was on the phone with his friend he did in fact say "Catch(C) You(U) Next(N) Tuesday(T)". Just pointing that out.

Five minutes of googling later.... /me gets the joke. Any show with a reference that esoteric can't be...too horrible.

It wasn't "catch" you next tues. It was see (as in C) you (as in u) next (starts with "n") tuesday (starts with "t") Put it all together and what does it spell? I don't think it was offensive, as Steve-o said, if you are smart enough to get it then you are old enough to keep your mouth shut. To anyone that didn't get it, don't feel bad, I had to explaine it to my wife.

Yeah, they slipped that one by... but I don't take that as offensive. If you're smart enough to put together the joke, you're probably old enough to not go screaming the C-word around the playground.

Yes, it's Brit slang, as in C U Next Tuesday.

The grey alien character said someone was "being a real 'catch you next Tuesday'" which I didn't take as offensive, but rather one of the many things they were able to slip past the censors.
