Red light for Greenlight

by Bob Sassone, posted May 13th 2005 2:17PM
Chris Moore, Ben Affleck, Pete Johns, Matt DamonWhen I called the season ending episode of Project Greenlight the finale, I didn't realize that it meant forever. Producer and co-creator Chris Moore has not only left LivePlanet, the company behind Project Greenlight, to form Embassy Row with two other execs, he also reveals in his blog over at the Bravo web site that he thinks that there will not be a fourth season of the show. The entire blog entry really does make it seem like it's the end (he says thank you to everyone, tells you how he is sad and frustrated, and calls it a "likely demise"), and that's really too bad. This was one of the few reality shows that didn't make me feel like I had to shower after watching it.

Man, I am bummed. I tried to watch it the first two years and got sucked in on the third. I loved the guy they picked, Gulager Rules. It was really cool that Matt Damon went out on a limb for the guy and he came through. It's great to see a long shot pay off. Oh, well maybe not, no more PG. #(!@er's... Maybe it should move to the internet and go even lower budget, take away the crats and you might see some cool stuff come out of it.

Funny that some of you think that this show going off the air is dissapointing considering that they have made bomb after bomb. Has anyone seen any of the movies they've made? The purpose was to give someone a shot and also generate good product; they did both poorly.

To discover that the best show on TV this past year (Project Greenlight) might be axed, is highly disappointing. This show takes you behind the curtain, and educated the public on how a movie is made....and all of the clashing personalities, hidden agenda's & motivations of individuals....to create a collaborative piece of art. I find it addictive to watch this show. I felt like a crack-ho looking for her next fix....waiting for another week to go by to see "what's next" in the car crash of making a movie. It truly was heartwarming to see John Gulager blossom into his own, over the almost insurmountable doubts of others about his talent, or unorthodox logistics of his way of shooting a movie and telling his story....yet his being adaptable enough to do some things the studio way. I hated the diva-backstabbing casting director for putting "her people" into the show by going over the heads of all others. I would have fired her ass right then on the spot....or bitch slapped her through the wall. I thought that Matt Damon's compassion for getting Gulager to do the film was fantastic...even after Gulager's absolutely frightening & nervous interview. Damon could see Gulagers talent, even though he was extrememly nervous at the interview. Gulager overcame all odds....and showed the nation...if you have the talent...the cream will rise to the top. Viva La Gulager. Viva La Green Light. Please....please...please.....I beg of you (Maloof Brothers, Weinstein Brothers).....make this series happen. It's an inspiration to all unfound filmakers and writers across the nation, to have your show....please help keep all aspiring writers and filmakers dreams alive. If your show dies....their dreams die. Keep Hope Alive. Do not cancel Project Green Light. It's the best show on TV....and this year....after releasing Gulager's movie...it will be profitable as well.

I loved Project Greenlight this year. The show helped put a human face on Hollywood filmmaking. I also thought that Gulager, the director, was the best thing to happen to the program in all 3 seasons. It was genuinely touching to watch this shy, talented man crash head-on into the studio system. Well, Project Greenlight... you join great shows like Freaks and Geeks that were cancelled prematurely. The inmates are running the asylum. I was a huge fan. I find it impossible to believe their aren't thousands like me who loved this show. I'll pray to las vegas that some smart soul will contemplate a 4th season. The show's just THAT good.

Damn, I was just putting the finishing touches to my script for season 4 submission. They would have loved it. Imagine a cross between The Exorcist and Care Bears: TAGLINE: Adorably-Frightening!!!

Hopefully they'll reconsider if Feast does well.
