The Contender: The Final Fight

by Keith McDuffee, posted May 24th 2005 11:23PM
contender 1I'll be honest, I haven't been watching this series for two reasons. First, it's on during other shows I watch and secondly, it's already not renewed for a second season. I did catch part of the final fight, which seemed decent though a bit anti-climactic (i.e., no knock out). I felt horrible for one of the fighter's daughter in the audience, who was crying hysterically as she was forced to watch her father get pummeled. Dear lord, woman, why didn't you have someone take her out of there?!

contender 2So many people I know told me this show was good. So what went wrong? Why did it not get renewed?

Finally a reality tv show that is the reality of someone's life. These men were actually trained boxers who were offered an oppertunity to do what they do in real life. No more of that see what you can eat, survive, and do for money. Watching these men fight and relate to eachother was mezmorizing and inspiring. This show was just what boxing needed. The tv networks need to definately reconsider putting it back on for another season I would surprised if fans followed it to what ever stationed picked it up. Props to Sly and SugarRay. My favorite boxer is definately Alfonzo, with the biggest heart and powerful punches.

I was at the final fight in las vegas on May 24th and watched EVERY episode that aired on Sundays. I really don't watch that much television and not a big fan of reality tv, but I fell absolutely in love with this show as well as every boxer and their family. This show was real-the emotions, the hardships they have taken to be where they are. And then you look at reality shows like the bachelor? You call that real? You put twenty some people in a room together and they're gonna find that special one that they fall madly in love with - PLEASE!! That is about as fake as #$@%! That isn't real life- THE CONTENDER needs and deserves to be brought back for a second season. If NBC is too stupid to pick it up again I hope another station is smart enough to know that this show has potential and is loved by many!!

I saw a great heart in all the contendors, but my two favorite were definately Sergio and Alfonso they are awesome. I have nothing but to wish everyone the best and good luck in al their endevours. Quite frankly I think that Sergio is proud to be a Mexican-American

It is still not professional boxing. No surprize, it is not mentioned in any boxing news (I was really surprized, but I did not find any). Five and even seven rounds - far from professional format. Because of it, "sprinters", e.g lesser boxers, had advantage - goo ranked boxers could not step through "bad" habit to save breath at least for 10n rounds. Besides, Sergio deserved to win by all standards, he is definitely future woeld champ.
