Kenny Chesney to drag Renee Zellweger on TV with him

by Karina Longworth, posted May 30th 2005 2:16PM
So Kenny Chesney, recently named Entertainer of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards, and recently named Mr. Renee Zellweger on an island in the Caribbean, has been given his own primetime ABC special. According to Reuters, "Kenny Chesney: Somewhere in the Sun" will air the night before Thanksgiving, and will feature appearances from "as-yet-unnamed celebrity friends of Chesney's ... quite possibly [including] his new bride." I always find it a bit disconcerting when celebrity wives are asked to service the careers of their somewhat-less-famous spouses, but since I strongly dislike Renee Zellweger, in this case, I don't really care.

I am really dissappointed with the 2 stadium shows (FedEx in DC and Heinze Field in Pittsburgh). I was one of the many who set up the complete show's @ both stadiums and we were not allowed to go in front or ANYWHERE to see the work we did. We worked our butts of both times 12 to 14 hour days for a whole week setting each one up. And after each show we worked 22hours staright to break each one down. It is sad when the people who did ALL of the work are not allowed to see the show to see how our setup looked! Even quoting Kenny from one of his interviews: "You have no idea until you're waist-deep into it what it takes to put one of these on," says Chesney of the 5-day preparations for FedEx Field. " and another interview he states: "And for all the fans who have no idea what happens before they walk through the door, well, this is a good shot to get a sense of how much goes into one of these shows that they have no idea about. I mean, it's not just me and the band jumping up there -- there's a whole mess of people making it happen. I'm lucky to have the best team out there, and now everybody's gonna know why." You are right Kenny....YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT IT TAKES...BUT WE DO!!! AND IT IS VERY DISSAPOINTING THAT YOUR MANAGEMENT WOULD NOT ALLOW SEE THE SETUP THAT WE PUT TOGETHER DURING THE SHOW!!! I HAVE ALL THE PICS OF BOTH SETUPS TO PROVE MY COMPLAINT. You were not out there in the heat sweatin' our butts off all for you.....VERY FREAKIN' SAD CHESNEY!!!! jimster123@comcast.net

Just in case you didn't know it, Kenney Chesney has sold more tickets than any other music entertainer, other than Prince, yes Prince...

Kenny is awesome...I'm DON'T, DO NOT, NO WAY do I like Rene Zellweger, but he is certainly no Mr Zellweger. She is a straight c-list actress who's only 'decent' movie was Cold Mountain and the movie wasn't any better because of her. Ew...she is just gross. She needs to get a tan, eat a burrito, and find a new 'blue steel' That stupid face she makes in EVERY picture is wretched!

Reading all Kenny's fan comments here make me smile. Excuse me but I've never heard of Kenny Chesney before Renee's wedding to him. Let's set the perspective right. Kenny is only famous in the local domestic Country Music scene versus Renee has an international following around the globe from Asia to Europe to MiddleEast . What is US population ? 295 million versus the World population of 6.5 billion with China and India each having over 1 billion and Europe's population is well over 450 million. I am not here to get into statistic but just to set the perspective straight for KC's fans who thinks that he rules in popularity. I am a Renee fan and started KC info search only after their wedding. Obviously, I'm not a Country fan but I do wish them both well and happiness in their marriage. If KC makes Renee happy - I am happy for her. Likewise, KC fans should stop trying to over state his popularity.

I have been a huge fan of Kenny and Renee for years. When they got married I was just as shocked as anyone. They are both very successful indivduals and don't need each other to help gain more success. They are great alone and I can't wait for them to be great together. Therefore if Renee does appear then great but if she doesn't then that's great too. They don't need each other to improve one another they need each other to share in the happiness and joy of each of their successes. I am proud to be a fan of each of them indivdually.

I have an observation that I think is interesting enough to share.....If Renee Zellweger is so much more famous than Kenny Chesney, then why are there more Kenny fans replying to this statement? I mean, I like them both....he's an awesome entertainer and vocalist, and she's an incredible actress, but the comments above are almost all from Kenny Chesney fans. I think that's proof right there that Kenny has a strong fan-base and is just as famous as Renee. If you use the comments as some-what of a poll....Kenny Chesney is more famous....lol.

You can't compare Kenny's music career to Renee's movie career. Both are very high up in their respective professions. Neither is more famous than the other because they are not in the same business. Right now, Kenny is the most famous in country music because he just won the ACM Entertainer of the Year award - the hghest award there is in country. You have no right to say that he is "somewhat-less-famous" than Renee. And you assume that just because it says some of his celebrity friends are going to be on the show that that means Renee is going to be on. He has many other celebrity friends that could be on there. How about Tim McGraw or Keith Urban - both are very close friends with Kenny and they could be celebrity guests on the show. You just automatically assume that its his wife. I'm sure that she will be there if she's not busy with her own career. But she may stay behind the scenes and be there for support. Next time, don't call somebody less famous unless they truly are and you have proof of it.

Kenny Chesney is just as famous or more famous than Renee, just because someone is a movie star doesnt mean they are going to be more famous than a music artist, unless there is proof of him being less famous don't say it, and once again the special was planned long before the little surprise wedding. I don't see how her being on the show would even cause a big deal or a rise in the amount of viewers. ABCX clearly is playing the special because they feel it will be good for them, with or without Renee. Personnaly I have always liked Kenny and Renee seperatly, and now that they are married I don't like either of them more, and I dont think anyone who was a true Kenny fan would like Renee more just because of her marriage to Kenny.

Isn't it wonderful that you all have the power to switch off your TV sets, or at least watch something other than ABC, since you're not big fans of Kenny and Renee! I happen to LOVE Kenny Chesney's music, and will definitely be tuning in to ABC that night! And like all loving spouses, I'm sure Renee will be there to support her husband, as he will surely be there to support her throughout her career in the future!

I didn't say anything about when the deal for the special was made. Nor did the Reuters article that I linked to and got all of my "facts" from: http://today.reuters.com/news/newsArticle.aspx?type=musicNews&storyID=2005-05-30T021242Z_01_N29534383_RTRIDST_0_MUSIC-MUSIC-CHESNEY-DC.XML And seriously guys, it's great that y'all love and support Renee and Kenny, and you have the right to yell at me, but I also have the basic right to be snarky about celebrities. In fact, it's my job.
