Do you have HDTV yet?

HDTV_NBC logoDo you have an HDTV set yet? We're taking an informal poll to find out how many TV Squad readers are interested in high-definition and digital TV coverage.

A weekly column on upcoming HDTV programming is just around the corner. And there's a ton of news out there about network plans for future HDTV programming, regulatory actions in Washington, and emerging digital TV technologies (including high-def personal video recorders, or PVRs).

So tell us: Do you have an HDTV set? If not, when do you plan, if ever, to buy one? Do you have an HD PVR?

No I do not have HDTV yet because I have DirecTV and HD programming still seems very limited, so I can't justify the expense. Plus, I can not live without my TiVo and I'm not sure how the HD and TiVo will work together, plus I understand it's still exorbitantly expensive to have HD TiVo. But maybe I just don't understand it well enough. Once I know that my favorite programs are available in HD, and I'm sure that I would be able to keep TiVo, I'm definitely planning to upgrade to HDTV.

I have a Sony HDTV, but I'm beginning to think I should have waited to make a purchase. I love my HDTV, but there's just not enough HDTV content right now so it's frustrating.

I have a Sony 34HS510 tube HDTV bought last August. It weighs 206lbs!. It is my best friend. Except it went behind my back and convinced my wife that CSI is a show worth watching (arrrggghhh.) I watch live locals with an old Unity Motion receiver. I record HDTV with my PC and play back through a Roku Photobridge. I don't pay for any HDTV yet, waiting for the HD DVRs to come down in price. So I get ABC, CBS, WB and UPN in HD, along with occasional sports feeds with the big dish. The only downside, as everyone says, is that SD programming is soooooo painful to watch now.

Yes. Through Adelphia (now some mythical hybrid beast owned by Comcast and Time Warner ;) I have both HDTV and an HD PVR hooked up to my 57" Sony HDTV ready rear-projection set. Primary broadcast HD, along with premium stations I don't pay for, and ESPN, ESPN2, Discovery and PBS. Would really like to get WB HD and TNT HD added in, but I'm not holding my breath...

Yep, I have HDTV and a HDPVR, and love them both. Would like to see more HD content, too.

I have an HDTV and Moto 6412 dual tuner HD PVR offered through Comcast. I trashed my ReplayTV after just two days of using the new box, and hate having to watch anything in standard def. I don't shell out for any premimum channels though, make due with the basic offerings.

I don't have HD yet, I'm thinking about going HD within a year or two, but just have other things to spend money on right now. A new house will do that to you.

No HDTV here. I armed my TV with Replay. I just can't give it up. Also, my favorite sports Formula One is not on HD. The moment they will broadcast the race on HD, I will be getting one.... or, I will wait for Replay to come in version of HDVR.

Much as I love TV, I'm not ready to take the HDTV plunge yet. I'm waiting for prices to come down, standards to solidify, and cable-box DVRs to improve. I currently have a Replay (TiVo's bastard step-brother), and I'd sooner cut my arm off than give it up. From what I've seen of other setups, switching to HD means you get low-quality SD images, a heinous amount of TV mode-switching, and a cable-box DVR that's a poor substitute for Replay (or TiVo, or even Windows XP MCE). Truth be told, I think SD is absolutely fine for everything except sports. And seeing as I usually only watch a smattering of college basketball (go Spartans!), I can live with it--for now.
