Six Feet Under: A Coat of White Primer
In the off-kilter Six Feet Under world, "A Coat of White Primer" takes place five plot-months after a convulsive series of events that marked the fourth season's conclusion. Fans of the series will recall that after being torn apart for a year over the circumstances surrounding his wife Lisa's death, Nate had determined that Lisa's demise was at the hands of her brother-in-law. When Nate confronted the slimy creep, Lisa's brother-in-law whipped out a pistol and killed himself.
All this took place in a time line that found Ruth's husband George in the throes of a mental breakdown, David and Keith getting that parental urge, and one-time husband-and-wife Federico and Vanessa drifting even farther apart.
Fast forward to "the present." Brenda is pregnant, and anxious to tie the knot with Nate. A tragic circumstance terminates her pregnancy, but they go ahead with the wedding. Meanwhile, the enforced therapy George has been enduring produces no improvement. Electroconvulsive therapy is prescribed, with apparently positive results - until George seems to forget that he has a son.
Meanwhile, Claire and Billy have harnessed their mutual fascination with each other's rebellious weirdness into something more than sex buddies but something a bit less than lovers-in-love. Having been there myself, I wonder how long that's gonna last.
David and Keith are soldiering on.
David and Keith are still parentally focused, but are actively vetting the options available to a gay couple who might want to either adopt or employ a surrogate.
It is apparent that a child would cement David and Keith's relationship, but having two kids around hasn't caused Federico and Vanessa to stick together. Relations between the two of them are little more than courteous. Much to her ex-husband's surprise she's broken up with her guy - originally a grudge date (and I am watching my language here) but an interlocutory that did not last.
Federico, meanwhile, is going online and trying out the dating services. As one who has done the same - with highly favorable results, I'm pulling for you, dewwd. If you find a new girlfriend though, don't step out on her by going to the wild side of life. Never works. OK, seldom works.
