Yes, more changes at CNN

by Bob Sassone, posted Jun 12th 2005 1:22PM

Capital GangSo Crossfire has ended, Judy Woodruff has quit Inside Politics, Bill Hemmer is leaving, Miles O'Brien is the new co-host of American Morning, and Wolf Blitzer is the host of a new 3 hour show every afternoon. And I'm sure I missed some news in there somewhere. Now here's more news: Capital Gang is ending its 17 year run at the end of the month.

CNN HAS BEEN A VERY IMPORTANT PART OF OUR HOUSEHOLD TV VIEWING FOR MANY YEARS. I FIND IT VERY DIFFICULT TO BELIEVE THAT THEY HAVE RELEASED SO MANY NEWS PEOPLE SO FAST. THE NEXT TIME I RENEW MY CABLE BILL I WILL SERIOUSLY CONSIDER DROPPING THE NETWORK. WITH ALL THE PEOPLE GONE THERES NO NEED TO SUBSCRIBE ANYMORE. TED TURNER SHOULD CONSIDER RE-HIRING THE COMMENTATORS OR HE FACES HAVING A SECOND RATE NEWS SERVICE AS COMPARED TO FOX OR MSNBC. OF COURSE THE DECISIONS ARE IN HIS HANDS. HOPE HE LOSES A LOT OF MONEY FOR THESE BAD MISTAKES. HEY TED THE PEOPLE ARE WATCHING OR ARE THEY? GIVE ME A BREAK, WOFF BLITZER FOR THREE HOURS, YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING- SO LONG TED TURNER AND CNN.

CNN has long had a deep "charisma defecit" - they don't seem like fun people and it's no fun to listen to them. Beyond that, they have such a clearly liberal orientation that I view them as being at least as ideologically bent as Fox - just in the other direction - their journalistic credibility is questionable in my mind. The few charismatic, camera-worthy people that they had, including Leon Harris and Arthel Neville, they pushed away. I was turned off last year when I saw the way CNN portrayed Yasser Arafat during his funeral; the man was a terrorist who killed innocent women and children - but, the CNN coverage made it seemed like Martin Luther King had just died. I feel that CNN reflects the international perspective more than it reflects the concerns and viewpoints of americans. It almost pains me to watch CNN today - and I also don't appreciate Aaron Brown's apparrent smugness and the insulting comments that he and founder Ted Turner have made regarding Christians. As far as the ratings decline goes, for my small part, I watched CNN for at least several hours every single day for most of the past eight years. This year, I completely stopped watching CNN. I watch FOX, CSPAN, and occasionally MSNBC, but almost never watch CNN anymore.

I'm very upset that Bill Hemmer has left the morning show at CNN News, I am a big fan of him. A very intellectual, great communicator, always a professional. He was the reason I watched CNN News. This other person that is taking Bill's place I don't care for, he looks like he is constipated. How could you guys let someone so valuable go? I wish Bill Hemmer the best that he much deserves. Thank you Bill for all the informative communication you gave us. I'm sure you'll do excellent!

I just cannot believe the changes happening at CNN... for chemistry? You have got to be kidding. You left the driest, most boring, dorks on t.v. and replaced Bill Hemmer? Give me a break. I watch CNN every single morning, not anymore. I'll miss the spicey Jack Cafferty as well. You can have the BORING O'Brien's... just keep this in mind Mr. Klein... you too can fall from grace and believe me you're heading there fast.

If Capital Gang will be no more, unfortunately you won't be able to grant my request that you "FIRE" Robert Novak. Judith Miller goes to prison & he keeps quiet. ANother'Martha Stewart' has taken the heat for a weazle without the morals of a skunk.

We watched Capital Gang every Saturday night. It was fun and informative. There is nothing else on. Another reason for the set to be black. Joseph Franklin

bill hemmer and judy woodruf were two of your best people, you will probably lose me along with them and I'm a news junky. Miles o'brien is good and would have done better teamed up with bill hemmer, not much reason to watch your morning show now that you are letting your best people go.

Capital Gang is perhaps the only politically responsible, ethical show left on CNN since the departure of Judy Woodruff and Crossfire...I am sorry to see them be replaced by out-of-context political clips and hyperbolic two minute interviews.
