More beauties and more geeks for the WB

by Annie Wu, posted Jun 21st 2005 1:47PM
beautyandthegeekThe recent WB reality show, Beauty and the Geek, has proven popular enough to already be renewed for a second season. This time around, it will have eight episodes rather than six and will air sometime during the 2005 - 2006 season. The show is still airing and you can catch it on Wednesdays 8/7 C. The WB is also currently looking for beautiful but academically impaired women and smart but socially challenged men for the new season.

I agree with Andrew. I watched the show expecting something degrading and embarrassing, and instead discovered that they'd done an excellent job capturing the contestants as actual people. The women aren't just airheads, the men aren't just nerds. It's really quite refreshing. Last week one of the women camera-talked that she's always been judged by her looks and has never felt smart in her life, and the sadness and anger in her voice when she said that was pretty powerful. What I'd like to see next season is a nerdy girl/stupid boy setup.

Have you guys even seen the show? I am of the "smart but socially challenged" type and I love the show. It's the only reality show I can relate to myself. The show's not about degrading them... it's a social experiment... a learning experience even. And it's really entertaining. It's the only thing I watch on TV besides re-runs of Simpsons and Futurama. Don't knock it till you've seen it. I think anybody can enjoy laughing at a dumb girl or nerd. They're usually the best parts of sitcoms.

Of course it's stupid, it's on television.

Wow, I thought I saw everything, but having a show like this is just morally degrading for "academically impaired women" and "smart but socially challenged men". To have a show like this, I think, is just stupid...
