New shows for BBC America

by Keith McDuffee, posted Jun 28th 2005 2:06PM
bbc americaBBC America is adding to its lineup this fall. Here's a taste of what to expect:
  • Viva Blackpool. The story of Ripley Holden, a wannabe Donald Trump, who dreams of creating his own Las Vegas. Broadway quality song and dance routines performed by the characters include classic tracks from Elvis Presley, Nancy Sinatra, Billy Idol, The Smiths, Jimmy Cliff and Diana Ross.
  • Bodies. A hospital drama, billed as The Shield for the medical profession. Says BBC America, "It's ER without the happy endings."
  • Love Soup. A comedy/drama is about a perfectly suited couple who've never met.
  • The Robinsons. A comedy about two brothers, from a perfectly normal ordinary family ... except of course for Ed.
  • Teachers. Series focuses on the lives, loves and timetables of a group of hapless teachers no sane parent would want teaching their kids.  In fact the teachers have more in common with their students than they'd like to admit.
  • Bad Girls. A female prison drama packed with love affairs, homemade weapons, hardened officers, and dangerous women

Please bring us Doctor Who, BBCA! There are so many of us (young and old) who want our Doctor(s) back... We specifically purchased our cable package to include BBCA, so that we could watch Doctor Who when the BBC finally started filming again, and now we've missed the 9th Doctor entirely. We can't even get them on Region 1 DVD, which is scandalous, in my opinion... I think that there are probably many people who will agree with me when I say that BBCA could certainly fill more time slots that currently show older series (like Benny Hill, which are fine once in a great while) with the best of the current shows on BBC in England, which includes Doctor Who. Isn't that the whole point of BBCA? Please don't delay, as there are more Who fans than you think over here, and if you won't show it, at least make a deal with the SciFi channel or make it available to purchase on DVD Region 1. Thank you, in advance.

The Last Gallifreyan

This channel really needs help. How about showing the most popular programs on BBC as a start... namely, oh, I dunno... Doctor Who. Little Britain, Look Around You, etc. C'mon give us the good stuff BBCA.

why change the name of Blackpool? still won't make any sense to people who've never heard of the town. Great show. Where the hell is Dr Who, though?
