30 Days renewed for second season

Morgan SpurlockThe Morgan Spurlock directed reality series 30 Days has been ordered up for a new season by FX for next year. The first season delivered on average 1.4 million viewers over only six episodes. I wonder how many good, original  ideas they can come up with for the new season. If they've got '30 days without a full night's sleep', I'm their man.

It was a fun series and I'm definitely up for some more. The minimum-wage episode though was pretty bad. With just a bit of planning and forethought there's no reason why they would have had so many problems. Part of the it is because your first month moving anywhere is always much, much more expensive than any time after that. You owe deposits on almost everything and you have to stock a kitchen and buy all sorts of other basics all at once. They also managed to make a pretty big mistake by moving from a place with good public transportation to a place where there really didn't seem to be much. Many of the working poor tend to at least have a crappy, half-rusted, but barely functional car to get to work. Personally my girlfriend and I both make about $7/hr (her slightly less than I due to being able to work less hours) being in and just out of college respectively. It's not minimum wage, but not much above it (and if you'll recall Morgan was making $7/hr at one of his jobs). I'm lucky enough to get cheap health insurance at work and even then luckier still that I've never needed to even visit a doctor in the past 3 years or so. We live comfortably in a nice neighborhood in a $600/month apartment and I have a lifestyle more or less equivalent to what I had living with my parents in an upper-middle class suburb... except I have far, far more disposable income. I only spend about half of my income on necessary household expenses and the rest is pretty much to spend as I wish. Again, I'm not making exactly minimum wage, but I could still manage to maintain my lifestyle pretty easily if I were, I just would have slightly less disposable income and would probably have to cut back on the money I'm investing for my retirement. It was a good idea, but if they'd managed to save up a full month's pay each and didn't have to worry about one-time, short-term expenses like apartment deposits they could certainly have been doing much better... kids though... now that's a whole 'nother story.

If they do "30 Days Sleeping with Attractice, STD-free and Commitment-free Women," then I'm their man.
