Joss Whedon on the Spike movie

Whilst shilling his new film, Serenity, in Austrailia this week, Joss Whedon confirmed that he's in the early planning stage on a Spike telefilm. Well, maybe "confirmed" is too harsh a word ... when asked about the Spike film, he strongly hinted that he's got a vague idea that something is going to happen. "I'm talking in reference to that... and possibly more," he said. "I can only teasingly hint, unfortunately, until it's got backing and we've got a schedule and a contract." He went on to suggest that maybe Spike isn't the only Buffy/Angel stalwart he plans to revisit. "[We've] been talking to some of the actors, writers, and some executives and are trying to put something together – but it's not happening fast." He closed with words that'll warm the hearts of every teenage demon hunter and vampire detective fan the world over: "I haven't left the Buffyverse behind."

Yes!!!!! It's about time. I've been a fan of Buffy since the begining & still watch my Angel dvds daily. I've often thought about a few other spinoffs for the Buffyverse sagas. Connor as an adult would be cool, with a little help from Gru or Electro girl. Maybe bring Faith back since she's supposed to be a fugitive with Principal Wood Andrew & 1 of the mini slayers as her team. Spike would be cool, but with who? Maybe Dawn all growd up. My imagination & anticipation is running wild. I can't wait.

This is great! For someone who was introduced to the Buffyverse mid-fourth season, having to work myself backwards through its history, this is welcome news. I'm glad that Joss is revisiting something that was so successful for him (please, no more Water World!).

Hell, bring on an "Angel" motion-picture. If "Firefly" - a Whedon created show that did not even last its entire first season - can generate enough buzz for a big screen treatment, why can't the even more popular series that lasted 5 seasons and still had room for more? David Boreanaz said he'd be interested in a theatrical continuation of the series; he just wasn't interested in a limited reprise for television.
