Rock Star: INXS: Elimination Night #10

by Deidre Woollard, posted Sep 15th 2005 1:02AM
suzieThe encore votes are up to the viewing public and so Marty gets the nod for "Trees." The other encore is chosen by audience approval and J.D. wins and we get "Pretty Vegas" once again. The rankings started off as Marty, J.D., Suzie and Mig last night. Suzie is the first of bottom three and takes on "Suicide Blonde." I wonder if they gave her this song to see how she would do with a song that was about girls. J.D. is second and sings "By My Side." Mig finally ends up in the bottom three and sings "What You Need." Seeing him makes me sing INXS songs makes me want to vote for J.D. even if he is a bit on the dysfunctional side. Suzie gets the boot and even Dave Navarro tears up. Alas, having INXS fronted by a woman was not meant to be. Next week is the finale and it seems like our three remaining men all have fierce support camps. Marty is attractive and intense but his voice seems thin at times. J.D. has a good voice and loves being on stage but ah, the issues. And then there's Mig. His theater experience means he's comfortable on stage, and yes, he's cute but I still think he's not a rock star and he just seems dated to me, very 1980s. It's not an easy choice and given the lingering threat of the Migspiracy, impossible to truly predict.

it shouldn't be a touch choice-Marty is the one with it all!!! and if INXS can not see that, that's sad-I am tired of hearing them praise Suzie and Mig and people who just do not fit the bill-

I think Mig's performance was the nail in the coffin-I do not like his look at all or his voice for that matter-he starred in grease on Broadway, that's where he belongs on stage-JD, hate his personality but he's pretty damn good-marty takes the cake-he's got it all in my opinion-looks, voice, attitude is great, he's humble and confident.

I still hope Marty wins. I find JD's voice can be bad at times and he reminds me of an Elvis personator still. Hate his personality too. Mig isn't right. Marty is rock star all the way.

great point by tim. It's just a house band and the dynamic between singer and group is an essential key. Wonder if it'll play at all???

Finally hearing Mig sing an INXS song was a let down. Although he pulled it off, I thought his voice sounded a bit thin and strained, especially toward the end of the song. This will be a tough choice for the band because each of the remaining three can bring something different. I also find it odd that the band isn't spending more time with the singers at this point, beyond the "interview" from last week. I'm sure most musicians in the audience would agree that the bond between a band and the singer is special, especially if, as seems to be the case here, INXS wants an equal partner that will contribute ideas to the band. What they're doing here seems to be picking a singer by proxy. Sure JD sounds great with the awesome house band, but the house band isn't INXS. I wonder whether there isn't some band-singer interaction going on that we don't see on TV.

Yeah, I don't know who is best for this band. It is hard to not compare everyone to Michael Hutchence, which is the biggest hurdle INXS will have to overcome regardless of who they choose, I guess. I also just wanted to see that I find JD increasingly irritating every time I see him. Plus, I am already sick of "Dirty Vegas" and I've only heard it three or four times.
