La Guerra de los Sexos

by C.K. Sample, III, posted Sep 25th 2005 2:01PM
guerra sexosI don't know Spanish much beyond the high school level. However, I often find myself on a lazy weekend day, flicking through the channels, only to land on Univision where I spend far too much time watching a show called, La Guerra de los Sexos. Translation: The war of the sexes. The description of the show is: "Celebridades compiten para determinar al sexo mas fuerte." Translation according to Google's translation: "Celebrities compete to determine hard to sex but," which I think should be, "Celebrities compete to determine the stronger sex." I just sat and watched a scene where a man laid down on a bench, pulled up his shirt, placed a cucumber across his belly-button, pointing from his groin to his chest, and another guy laid down on his back with a mask on so that he couldn't see, and took a samurai sword and cut the cucumber in half.

Why doesn't English-speaking television have this type of cutting-edge goodness? It's like if That's Incredible were still on the air, had been revamped as a gender-based gameshow/variety show, and redubbed in Spanish. Amazing.
