Lost: Adrift

lost shark symbolAs we were promised, we find out what happened to the crew out at sea in this episode. Not only that, but we see what Locke and Kate experienced down in the hatch before Jack decided to go "do something heroic," as Charlie put it. And as it so happens, it seems I was wrong to assume that the symbol on the cabinet of vials didn't mean a whole lot.

lost hatch lair pantryYes, you did see the symbol on a shark. A shark! What's next, fricken laserbeams on their heads? My brother in law had to call me to rewind my Tivo to double-check what he thought he saw, and there it was. Oh God, what a wrench this throws in Lost theorists', um, theories.

We also get a tour of more of Desmond's lair. Kate finds out she was thrown into a pantry full of goodies, and yet again we see that symbol on just about everything in there. Someone must really want some good Feng Shui going on down there. We also get a look at another one of Desmond's works of art - a wall covered in chicken scratches. How long before someone out there freeze frames the episode and counts them all? Well, it looked like a lot more than 108 to me.

lost computer screen numbersSo, anyone know the answer to Desmond's riddle? In case you missed it, closed-captioning said, "What did the snowman say to the other snowman?" Do you smell carrots? Obviously it's some prearranged code, set up for him to identify this person he's waiting for. Is he waiting for the now dead Ethan to be the one to come relieve him of his duties, plugging in the now famous numbers into an old Apple ][ computer (with 5.25" floppy drive!)

Now the raft crew is back on the island again, and "the others" are all over them. Maybe Walt did get away for Shannon to see him in the jungle? Actually, if they were showing things as they were happening at sea and on the island, synced up, Walt would've appeared almost right after he was abducted. Now that's odd.

Though it was a Michael-centered episode, really there wasn't a whole lot of revealing backstory. Maybe they're saving his best stuff for last. Oh boy, wait until Hurley finds out what's being typed on that keyboard!

I just watched this episode... I didn't read any of this before watching it... and I was shocked when I thought I saw that Dharma Logo thingy on the creepy shark... Obviously I rewinded and played that part in slow-mo... and I was like: "How in hell...?" I think this episode was just part of a 2 hour season premiere that never came to reality... If you watch the 2 episodes again, just edit them in your mind... it absolutely fits the profile of a "2 hour event"... Oh yes, there is a profile...

The Dharma Initiative! So strange. The scientist in the film said after an "incident," a two person team must enter a code preventing the counter from running out. Why? What ever the incidient was, why does it have to be stopped every 108 minutes and not just permanently? It seems that some kind of paranormal/psychological test went very wrong on the island. But what was created and what happens if that counter runs out?

its funny bacause my little 8 yr old brother was watching s02e02 with me and i had recorded it onto VHS so it was bad quality and when the shark swam by he was like "dude, that symbol is everywhere" and i couldent figure out what he was talking about.... it took me 3 time of rewinding it and playing it frame by frame to find it..........i swear it hurts egos so much to be showed up by someone half your age.

I'm relatively new to lost but after reading a few theories i've come up with my own...mostly stemming from the fact that people's "backstories" seem to directly influence what is happening on the island case in point, Jack's father tells him something (basically be more of a leader)in the past, and BAM on the island, Jack is more of a leader...i think all of the "flashbacks" should be taken with a grain of salt (is it grain of sand?) and i've got a somewhat idea of a theory that basically revolves around each character currently being in some kind of a support group, where they all explore their issues by visiting an imaginary island where anything can happen, (c'mon, little boy is taken away in past, taken away in island) i'm only half heartedly into this but it makes sense in some instances...feel free to poke holes...
