Holy confusion Batman!

Wayne Manor? So, does anyone out there in webland know whether the 1960s Batman house was destroyed by fire the other day or not? Several places online reported it (including us), but then Reuters came out with a news story, picked up by everybody, that it was actually another house down the street that caught on fire, not the Batman mansion.

But last night I'm watching The Insider (at least I think it was that one - all those shows are on around the same time and tend to melt together after a while), and they interviewed the owner of the house and they said it was the Batman house and that it was destroyed by fire. They even took a quick tour of the place and it certainly looked like the same tudor mansion used on the show and in many movies. But with all the mansions out there, it's hard to tell.

So, can anyone tell us the real story?

My understanding is that the house that burned down was one that was used for many exterior shots for a variety of movies and TV shows including a couple of episodes of the 1960s BATMAN show where it was used in an establishing long shot.- However the majority of action in and around the manor was actually shot at another mansion not far away - and most Bat historians (yes we do exist) tend to consider that one as the TV show's "Wayne Manor". - Incidentallly that house was purchased in May of this year by Paul McCartney. So was the house that burnt "Wayne Manor"? - well technically yes it was - for a few episodes. Was it THE "Wayne Manor" - No. Alan J. Porter Author The Unauthorized BATMAN Collectors Guide
