Night Stalker: Do I have to keep watching this show?

by Bob Sassone, posted Oct 14th 2005 7:20PM

Night StalkerThat's it, I give up. I gave this show several episodes to grab me, or at least not bore me/turn me off, and it's just not working. So now I'm going to use my Thursday nights at 9 for something more constructive, like doing my laundry or downloading porn.

Feel free to use the comments below to discuss the show amongst yourselves. Maybe every Wednesday night at 10 I'll put up a post so everyone can talk about the episode if they want, we'll see what happens. But from here on out, it's bye-bye Night Stalker for me.

I missed the pilot/premiere. ABC did _not_ rerun it, as they did with the pilot/premieres of INVASION and COMMANDER IN CHIEF. They've continued to under-hype the show, in general. And, Episode 2 was so dull, in particuliar, that I wound up watching "the Frighteners" (counter-programmed, that night, on SCIFI Channel) longer and longer during commercial breaks! Stuart Townsend does not use the rapid-fire datelining that was part of Darren McGavin's narration (and, which gave the original series quasi-journalistic plausibility). Gabrielle Union exhibits none of the feistiness exhibited by her "Bring It On" character. Which makes "Perri Reed" (the resident damsel-in-distress) less like Princess Leia and more like the Golden Age Lois Lane! Furthermore, if Spotnitz wants this show to run as long as X-FILES did, he should cut back quite a lot on the MILLENIUM-style melancholy. *Or, need I remind everyone how the loose ends of _that_ pessimistic flop had to be tied up on X-FILES, itself? Which, if memory serves, did not occur until a year or two _after_ the MILLIENIUM series finale'.* In summary, then: I will keep checking the "Cancelled TV Shows" section of Pazsaz Entertainment's website for NS 2005.

Wow! This really confirms my total dislike for such an overused and nonintellectual form of communication. If you all would put half as much effort into a real "life" you would have less to complain about. Like the show or not, none of you are getting paycheck for it. More power to Night Stalker and any other show that you do not like.

"hahah, this is the funniest post ever. The networks should pay you not to slander their new shows. It's weird though. Aren't you suppose to be professional?" So saying a show didn't grab you constitutes slander? Methinks someone needs to pay a visit to Mr. Dictionary.

My wife feels the way you do about NightStalker, but I'm willing to give it one more episode after each one so far. And I agree 100% with the Supernatural parallel. Between this, Lost, Boston Legal, Gilmore Girls, Related, Threshold, Everybody Hates Chris, the resurgence of West Wing, The Office, Arrested Development, and Nip/Tuck -- TV is better than ever.

As someone that used to work in a newsroom I relished the thought of a reporter as a hero. Sigh. It took me one episode with the hyena people to give this one up. Townsend is BORING and not interesting at all. And the other cop...I mean reporter is dull as well. this will be canned soon. Bob is usually right about shows. Sorry he watched three hours of this one. Tops of the season: Invasion Smallville Boston Legal My name Is Earl Kitchen Confidential West Wing, hey it's better than ER.

maybe it's my age, both i think both versions of Nightstalker are terrible. How can such a cool concept be so awful twice?

I quite like the show - I'm in - I dumped Supernatural for this because they are quite similar but SN is more like a teen version and NIGHT STALKER is more mature in its theme, characters and portrayal of the mystery. The last SN I saw had some monster killing people in the woods...Yawn. The last NIGHT STALKER had some freaky your-worst-nightmare-kills-you storyline and that freaky kid in the photos thing was just the kind of unsettling visual I like in my X-Files-type shows. While I think Gabrielle Union is not very convincing as the Lois Lane character - the Jimmy Olsen kid is on the money and I must say that Stuart Townsend exudes creepiness and Johnny Depp-cool at the same time. I hope they dont hook them up and that Kolchak has some more mysterious background - love the cut in half Gumby figurine tied to his rear-view mirror. Towsend was creepy cool in LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN as Dorian Grey. It always takes a few eps to establish the look and feel of the show - I gave up on TRU CALLING after the first 5 - but gave it another chance when they intor'd Jason Priestly's character and that's when the show took off - but unfortunately too little too late. I guess I want NIGHT STALKER not to wait too long to bring out the trump card - especially after reading the other comments here.

Yeah, what with Alias sucking and Nightstalker being boring, I'm clinging hard to ER just out of nostalgia. Actually, I'm watching The Dead Zone tv show on DVD and I love it. But it's like being at a high school reunion with Anthony Michael Hall. I still can't quite believe it's really him.
