The Amazing Race: Episode 4
We start tonight with the disclaimer that this episode will take place in pre-Katrina Mississippi and Louisiana. The teams go to Alabama in search of the world's largest office chair. The smack talking from the Schroeders begins early tonight when they refer to the Weavers as the "white trash family." The Gaghans think they have found a short cut which worries me because as we have seen before, they may be super-achieving but they can't seem to navigate their way out of a wet paperbag. Just driving by the race track weirds the Weavers out (since the father was killed in a race track accident) and there is much speculation by the other teams about how upset the Weavers will be when they find out that they have to go to the actual track. The teams don't have to drive a race car around the track but they do have to pedal around on a bike built for four. Once the Weavers learn they have to go to the race track, it's family freak out time but they pull it together pretty fast. Next the families have to go to some trailers and look for their morning departure times. This week the Schroeders get to be the crazy team going nuts after they get lost and with Stassi spazzing out about not having an early morning departure time. Next morning they have to find a BP (of course) gas station. Boring. What makes this different from any family trip? The Godlewskis miss the BP the first go round. The Detour is Work: cut slices off a piece of wood or Play: play 21 on a riverboat. The wood seems to be the quicker task and the Gaghans end up trying both and eventually choosing the wood. The last place Schroeders chose the wood first and then the card option which actually works for them. The teams go to New Orleans. First in are the Bransens yet again and they win a trip to Orlando, Florida. The Paolos come in second and are thrilled. It seems to be a race for last with the Weavers, Schroeders and Gaghans. The Weavers are next then the Gaghans arrive and the Schroeders (who were so confident about knowing their way around their home town) make it in last and are eliminated. They are utterly devastated. The father, in the wrap-up takes the blame for the loss but unlike other teams they don't seem to have gotten anything truly valuable out of the experience. Next week we finally get out of the U.S. And is it just me or are the Paolos becoming more likeable?
