Million Dollar Idea becomes American Inventor

american inventor logoBack in July, TV Squad's Bob told us about Simon Cowell's idea for a show, then titled Million Dollar Idea, where judges would choose the best new product idea from a number of contestants, the winner getting a million dollar prize. I haven't yet read what disclaimers exist for being featured on the show, now titled American Inventor, but how much do you want to bet that ABC gets full rights to all product ideas featured on the show, and the "inventors" fork over all rights to those ideas once they sign on the dotted line?

No wonder ABC changed the name of the show, because to them, it's a multi-million dollar idea, once they get rights to those new products.

There's already been some sort of "invention competition" show on one of the lesser cable channels that I've seen. The problem is that invention is not really all that exciting as a process. It's not like you can tune in each week to see how well an invention is coming, and vote off the one that has the least potential. It only really seems meaningful when somebody starts from day one with a demonstrable prototype that the audience can see. But if they already have that, they're pretty far along the process.
