MythBusters: Vodka Myths

by Keith McDuffee, posted Nov 2nd 2005 10:25PM
mythbusters kariI'm not quite sure why this episode it titled the way it is, as most of it dealt with the "Compact Compact" myth. I know, I know. I messed up last week's episode, titled "Confederate Rocket", which was actually a very cool episode to watch (I believe they called the myth plausible, or at least it seemed that way).

In "Compact Compact", the MythBusters try to debunk the myth of two huge semi trucks smashing head-on into each other, where a small compact car was unlucky enough to be completely pancaked in between them, so much so as to be obscured from view. Using a pulley system that tugs along two semi trucks with trailers, the MB's use two huge tow trucks to drag them at same speeds.

The MythBusters attempt the above mentioned test once but fail as one truck goes out of control, while the other crashes right into the car. They decide the car is in "good enough" shape to try the test again (though I think it'd make the test a bit inaccurate, but whatever). Though the second test fails somewhat (the car gets spat out the side after being hit by one of the trucks ahead of the other), it sure looked to me like the car would've been totally consumed by the two cars. Also, was there any fuel in the two trucks, or at least enough to cause an explosion to fuse the two trucks together? Anyway, that's how it looked to me, but they call the myth Busted.

Similar to the cola myth tested once before, the MythBusters try to debunk a few vodka myths. For "Vodka Foot Bath", the MB's test whether vodka can take away foot stink. After a blind smell test with one of Adam's feet in vodka and the other in a foot bath, Grant has the unpleasant task of smell tester. Myth confirmed here, as the smell is almost completely gone on both feet.

Next, "Vodka Mouth Wash". Can you mix cinnamon and vodka together to make an effective mouthwash? Well, when Kari makes the mixture, it looks more like a bottle of mud. Two weeks later she filters the mixture through a coffee filter. Adam is used once again for a stink test, after smoking a cigarette, eating garlic and some stinky cheese. Against commercial mouth wash, the cinnamon mouthwash holds its own very well. Myth confirmed, once again.

Nice, J. Now the wives of every J. Taylor in Columbia, TN are kicking the snot out of their husbands if they catch them watching MythBusters. Seriously, though. Kari has major geek-factor hotness. She's cute, geekily smart, has a tongue piercing and knows how to kick back with the guys.

I agree that the test with the two semi's was a little flawed but I think it is only logical that if given the laws of physics (for every action...) it would be impossible for the three vehicles to fuse together. Of course the team may approach this again but it's sort of a waste of time. I have a proposal to the show and I hope they are reading this and especially Kari Byron. Kari, yeah I'm married but even as I sit in my lazy boy chair and enjoy the Mythbusters program every week I must exclaim in excitement that you are the hottest looking woman since hot came to hot town. OOOOH YEAH! Kari is COOOL! My proposal would be for the show to have a contest. If a viewer requested and most absurd and un-logical myth is proved to be plausible - you win a date with Kari! Now that's television! J. Taylor Columbia, Tenn.

I agree. Too bad it had so many problems, but it was still very cool. I just wish they had showed it in super slow motion as well. And yeah, the Vodka part was meh. The way they SHOULD have done it would have been to keep truck 1 and the car stationery then make the other truck just go faster head on. Less problems that way. The big problem would have been getting it fast enough. Why not remote control?

That semi crash was amazing. Too bad that the car wasn't smashed in between them, but that destruction was great. The vodka myths were a bit boring and provided time for me to catch up with my English class, but once the semi myth came on, I was totally focused on that.
