Why is Joey still on?

by Adam Finley, posted Nov 11th 2005 5:35PM

JoeyIt's a strange frightening world we live in where Arrested Development gets cancelled but NBC keeps Joey running even though its ratings, to use the scientific term, "really suck." So why does NBC not yank it from the lineup? According to today's issue of EW, Matt LeBlanc gets paid no matter what, and the network would have to pay a penalty to Warner Brothers if the show were cancelled early. Basically, it's just cheaper for NBC to keep the show going. If that's how shows live or die in TV land, I may just turn off the set for good and start entertaining myself with finger puppets.

I couldn't care less whether or not Joey gets cancelled, but Jesus Christ, just let it go about Arrested Development. It wasn't funny. Watching people act like self centered morons isn't funny. People keep acting like it was the best thing on T.V., because it was like Andy Warhol paintings. The writers are laughing at you, smirking at how many of you they were able to get to admit you liked it. Not enough to keep it from getting cancelled, hu?

Just a follow up... I have to agree with Joey's girl in some respects. I don't understand why everyone talks so bad about Joey's ratings. They really aren't that bad -- that is correct. I think the expectations were way too high. Plus, NBC was expecting him to anchor their once-precious must-see-TV night. I still think the writers really screwed it up though. Matt Leblanc is perfect for TV -- just not in this show. Have him move back to NYC and go back on Days of Our Lives... or a revival of MAC and Cheese. Now THAT was funny.

I doubt it will get picked up for next season. NBC is looking at a really scary scenario of having only "ER" back next season on Thursday. One scenario reported in the New York times was that "Earl" would move to Thursday.

I don't understand why people talking of the ratings problems, because other show in the air have lower ratings than Joey. So, must be cancelled The OC, Scrubs, Smallville, Everwood, Alias?? I love Joey, and always be supportive with Matt Leblanc. Forget about "Friends", they didn't want to continue, let's give a chance to Matt!!

"Matt LeBlanc gets paid no matter what, and the network would have to pay a penalty to Warner Brothers if the show were cancelled early." Too bad NBC didn't have the same agreement with writers. Good writers, that is.

I honestly think the show could be saved, but it's like they don't want to bother. First, fire all of the cast (except Joey, of course). I mean, EVERYONE. Then start picking through the writers and get rid of most of them. This is total crap. They took a potentially good character and really did nothing with him. The show is just unwatchable.

Wow, that's a really old cast photo with Ashley Scott still it before she was replaced.
