Saturday Night Live: Jason Lee/Foo Fighters

by Annie Wu, posted Nov 13th 2005 1:52PM
snlPre-Show Thoughts: After watching a My Name is Earl mini-marathon, I am ready for some more sweet Jason Lee action. Plus, Foo Fighters are the musical guests... This definitely has the makings for a great episode, but will Saturday Night Live find a way to screw itself over again? Well... Probably... But let's play the optimist and hope not.

Oh, and apparently there's a new featured player by the name of Kristen Wiig. It's kind of a strange time to add a new cast member... Anyway, she's from The Joe Schmo Show, if you think you recognize her. She's the first female to join the SNL cast since Amy Poehler.

Hardball with Chris Matthews: This was okay, I guess. I was glad to see Darell Hammond doing something other than a two-second walk-on. On the other hand, I was worrying excessively over Will Forte just like I always do when he impersonates Zell Miller. He goes beet red and his eyes look like they're ready to pop out and eat your brains. My guess is that one day, Forte will die on-air while doing that impression.

Monologue: I had no idea Jason Lee was a pro skateboarder... That was interesting. I got a good chuckle out of Lorne Michaels skateboarding like a master. I really liked this monologue just for not being a question-and-answer. It'd be really nice if they did more monologues like this where we learned something new about the guest.

JJ Casuals: This was just... I don't even think there's a word to describe this. This was clearly a sketch based around an impression (singer Jack Johnson) instead of a concept. A sketch fully worthy of a "WTF?"... However, I must admit I was amazed by this sketch because Samberg managed to get his crazy moptop hair under that wig.

Good Morning Meth: Jason Lee looked like Zaphod Beeblebrox. Kenan had his old Kenan and Kel hair. Being a meth addict means you shake and talk really fast. That is all.

The Falconer: I think this is the first time I've laughed at a Falconer sketch (man on puppet-falcon action). I really liked the Indecent Proposal reference but it would've been funnier if they hadn't actually said the title. Worth a few chuckles, nothing more.

Thomas & Dibbins commercial: Interesting idea, weak delivery.

The Soaking-Wet Killer: This was "laugh in your head" material... Not quite enough to garner a smile from me.

Guests for next week: Eva Longoria and Korn. HAHA! Now that is comedy.

Refurbishments: Caulk? Trimming your bush? Are you serious? This is not seventh grade. Jason Lee is a funny guy... he does not need to be making caulk jokes.

Weekend Update: The highlights were the French being beaten by children wielding baguettes and "Happy Holidays from Jesus". Nothing too special.

Butt Pregnancy: What? What? Someone got stoned, spit out an idea about butt pregancy, they started writing it, lost the direction, had to end it, someone shouted, "OMG. What if it turned out to be Will Forte?! LOL", and it was done. Only decent thing about it was Jason's booty dance.

'Stachin': Dammit, Horatio! You said McNulty wrong (as McNutly)! Serves you right to have to freeze during mid-laugh.

American Taser: One or two good moments. Dragged on a bit. Is it time for bed yet?

Finally! It's over! Highlight's of the show: Foo Fighters, Jason Lee's booty dance, and the closing credits. They should really consider cutting the show down to an hour if all they're doing is filling that extra half-hour with senseless filler.

Weeks later, I still think that the McNulty mustache ride commercial was the funniest thing I've ever seen on SNL.

I am from Muhlenberg County. I Thought the good morning meth skit was very funny, and very accurate. Mad kudos to Jason Lee. I would almost beleive he had spent time here, or knew someone that lived here. Beleive me, he was on the money. If Lee needs more material I have plenty.

I missed this episode. Does anyone know of any torrents? All the ones I find are mislabelled. Episode 4 correctly downloads "Lance Armstrong". But when I download Episode 5, I get a repeat of "Lance Armstrong", and not "Jason Lee". Everywhere. Thx...

SNL has been floundering for years, but who can pass up Jason Lee and the FooFighters. For Margaret with the question about Jason's t-shirt. That's the logo for Stereo Sound his skateboard company.

What I really want to know is where Jason got that 45 record spinner tee shirt he was wearing. My husband loved it and I think it would be cool to get him one. Oh yeah I think Jason Lee is a pretty good actor for the stuff that he does but the SNL show as a whole bored me.

Show had some funny parts but mostly tuned in to see the Foo Fighters rock the house which of course they did!

SNL needs a complete overhaul. What a pathetic waste of 90 minutes. ...I really thought the Meth skit would garner more feedback. Was I the only one that thought it was a skit that pushed the envelope way too far?... The Falconer is never, ever funny, but I got a chuckle out of the "sex scene"... Why is it that Horatio Sanz always seems to break character? Is he really taking his work seriously. Granted, I laughed due to the fact that he was laughing, but it's really not the professional thing to do... The Butt Skit was lame and juvenille... Ditto the Chaulk skit. Talk about recycling ideas... I, for one, like Poehler and Fey as the news anchors, but this week's segment really sucked... Kudos to the new guys. I agree they are working their butts off, and I think they are actually pretty funny. But what good things have last year's "new guys" Keenan and Finesse done? The Donovan McNabb skit isn't the least bit funny... SNL desperately needs cast members who can impersonate others, a la Darrell Hammond (thats all he's good for nowadays)and Will Ferrell... Overall, this week's episode sucked.
