Is there hope for Arrested Development after all?

by Bob Sassone, posted Nov 14th 2005 4:22PM

Arrested DevelopmentThere's an interesting rumor going around the industry: Showtime is interested in getting Arrested Development.

OK, for now it's still in that "rumor" stage, but the SF Chronicle's Tim Goodman answers several questions about the show's FOX demise, and it says that it actually makes sense for Showtime to pick up the show. Nothing for certain yet, but there seems to be at least a faint pulse to the show this week when last week it was flatlining.

I created a petition to encourage Showtime to pick-up Arrested Development. This doesn't replace any other online petitions floating around, but I this one targeting Showtime in particular may be worthile: Showtime: Pick-Up "Arrested Development"

i am such a big fan of arrested development! ironically,i didnt start watching the show until the second season because i never heard about it until then so the fox p.r people suck. anyway, the show is the only show i have ever had to beg my friends to see and none have heard of it, maybe if it goes to a cable network, more people will watch.

OK, so who is charge of starting the petition to Showtime guaranteeing at least 1 Million new subscribers in the event AD is picked up?

Click to Save AD!

I found this article while Google-searching to figure out why AD was pulled from my TiVo "To Do" list. I'd gladly subscribe to Showtime to see Arrested Development. After all, Curb Your Enthusiasm is the only reason I pay for HBO. I don't mind paying for quality entertainment. Showtime, are you listening?

I said i would never pay for showtime again after it cancelled one of the most well written show i've seen on tv -- Dead Like Me -- to make room for some of the other half-a55ed HBO series wannabee's. This is the one thing Showtime could do to make me even more infuriated with them - pick up AD - make me shell out a few bucks for it - then cancel it. I'll just hope that a regular channel pickes it up - or have to settle with buying the dvds of them well after everyone else has seen them.

Giddy as this news makes me, the sad truth is that if AD goes to Showtime, the ratings will likely be even worse. If people won't watch it for free, they sure as heck won't watch it if they have to pay for it. OTOH, that's just my negativity talking. If it meant getting another season's worth of the show, well, who cares about the ratings?! :) P.S. I've been a basic-cable subscriber forever, but I'll pony up for Showtime if AD is in the equation.

FOX certainly no longer deserves this very clever show. I hope that they feel the pain of losing such a great show. I plan on not watching FOX until December 5th and I hope that others do the same. They really only have one show on worth watching and they cannot pick a time to put it on. It's basically crappy. I hate to think of people not being able to watch it because of FOX's inability to see the show is a hoot! The censoring is fine because it is somewhat humorous and adds to the wit.

FINALLY some good news. You'd think FOX would have the courtesy to at least show a commercial telling you "By the way, A.D. won't be back 'till December. If it weren't for the internet (Being I really only turn the tube on for A.D.) I wouldn't have known what the heck was going on. I WOULD PAY FOR SHOWTIME (or any other network) just to see this show. FOX is REALLY blowing it on this. And, as far as I can tell, polarizing an intelligent group of loyal fans by leaving them in the dark. Beancounters. P.S. I also agree with censoring the language. It adds too the gag.

I love this show and would follow it anywhere, even if I have to pay extra to watch it. I do hope that Showtime picks it up! I don't think they could lose- DVD sales should more than make up the amount of money spent on production costs. And they will get the (supposedly) 4 million die-hard fans to subscribe. I think there are more fans than that, but according to the all-important Nielsen ratings...
