Ebert tells Oprah to syndicate... on a date?

I don't know how I missed this. It seems that twenty or so years ago, Oprah Winfrey was given the suggestion to syndicate her then-local Chicago-based talk show by Chicago Sun-Times movie critic Roger Ebert, who gained success and fame after he and Gene Siskel syndicated their movie review show. But the place where the suggestion was made boggles my mind: they were at the movies... on a date. Can you imagine that? Ebert and Oprah, sitting in a movie theatre, discussing syndication, all the while Roger is thinking about how to get a little sugar from Oprah. I wonder if he tried the old Greg Brady "make like you're stretching then put your arm around her" gambit. Oh, to be a fly on the wall....[via USA Today's Pop Candy blog]
