Fly, Lara Flynn Boyle, fly!

by Bob Sassone, posted Nov 22nd 2005 4:08PM

Flying NunDid everyone see Las Vegas last night? The big death scene at the end? Hysterical!

Everyone's comparing the death scene to how Rosiland Shays died on L.A. Law years ago, falling down the elevator shaft with no warning. But this was even more outrageous. Boyle is on the roof of the casino, arguing with Josh Duhamel. It's really windy, and she's wearing this ridiculous dress with big flaps under the arms...and the wind picks her up and carries her overboard, as Styx's "Come Sail Away" is playing in the background. You could see it coming a mile away (only a few minutes left in the show...it's windy...she's gesturing with her arms...the sail away song is playing...hey, she's going off the roof!).

This is definitely going on my list of Best TV Moments this year.

I liked the show from last couple of years--as a bunch of odd sh*t happening in a Casino, with good scripts and eye candy. They went away from that with LFB episodes--no chemistry or flow. I have to think there was some bad feelings toward LFB given her funeral arrangements in the next episode. The next episode after the funeral seems to get back to the old formulas--and seemed more in line with previous seasons, and renewed my interest.

Who cares how ridiculous the scene was, LFB is off the show and that's all that really matters. She just wasn't a fit with the wonderful LV cast! Userless is right, LV is like a wonderful dessert, I look forward to the show everyweek and really enjoy all the crazy stuff the characters get themselves into! I would sure like to see them take the Danny and Mary relationship and give it some edge!!

This show isn't supposed to be serious or played straight. It never really has, and always had rediculous moments in it. Given, watching LFB fly off the roof might of been the most rediculous ever, but I'll continue to watch. LV is my guilty pleasure, like eating dessert for dinner. It's all sugar and fun, but you feel bad about it later.

I guess nobody watches 'scenes from next week'. She is dead and they think Danny pushed her. She falls through a store and Eds daughter (her name slips my mind) makes a dumb joke about the dress being on sale at the store.

Yeah, I watched the episode, and now that elf (comment #4) points out all the little quirks.. it's does seem like it is a dream of Danny's. What with Mary and that guy not getting together either. And beyond the horrible effects, what about that horrible dress they had LFB in? It had butterflies on it too (a nod to the mothwoman character she was being "confused" with, no doubt.) Will they pull a "Dallas" and make it all a dream?

do we actually know she's dead? Was it just a fantasy in Danny's mind? The whole episode had a comic book theme to it, and it is a too be continued, so there could be a different outcome. Elf! Thanks for the list! Those are what makes this show silly campy fun. Some of you are looking for depth in a wading pool.

I have to agree with you Erik. I pretty much stopped watching it because I really don't want to watch two straight hours of television in one night, and my mom got me hooked on Medium. I look forward to Medium now, and have ceased to really care about Las Vegas. But I'm still happy I got to see this moment last night. Heh.

OMG this show has gone down the drain. The retro episode was terrible, so bad, I only watched about 2o mins and had to delete it from my Tivo. Now this ending that looked like a 10 year old produced it. If you want to make an ending like this, at least do it with style, the visual effect was beyond dumb.

Remember that episode of The Simpsons where Homer played the voice of Poochie in the Itchy and Scratchy tunes? Lara's death scene reminded me of when Poochie was "abducted by aliens" with the same choppy effect. It was as if the producers wanted LFB off the show and she wouldn't cooperate so they used a photoshop effect to get rid of her. As long as they don't get rid of Nikki Cox and Vannessa Marcel, I'll continue to watch this show.
