"The Tony Danza Show" Parrot

by Jonathan Toomey, posted Nov 24th 2005 6:17PM
parrotOkay, it's about time that someone set the record straight in regards to Rocky, The Tony Danza Show parrot. I'll be honest, I'm a bit fed up with Joel McHale of The Soup and his recent bashings of this poor, defenseless bird. For those that catch the show on occasion, you should know that Rocky is a tiny-bit camera shy and doesn't like to talk with so many people staring at him... poor thing. However, let it be known that off-camera, this bird is a motor-mouth blessed with the chops of a concert trumpeter. Now I know what all you nay-sayers are thinking: "But Jonathan, you work for the show, what kind of sham are you pulling?" And my response is simple. Yes I work for the show, but I feel bad for the bird and all the negative publicity he's getting. My request is simple, just keep Rocky in mind on this day of thanks... preferably after you've carved and enjoyed your turkey. I don't think ol' Rock wants to be involved with that.

Amen...poor little bird. But I have to ask, I love this show. Is it doomed? Tony mentioned his "bad news" today on the show and I am worried. He makes my days brighter!

What kind of bad press is Rocky getting? I saw one episode of The Soup - is there more? Thanks!

I understand completely about Rocky. We have an 8-year-old Congo African Grey parrot and she talks endlessly, dances, and is highly intelligent, shockingly so! Yet when people come over, she "clams up" and doesn't say a thing. She may act interested, but basically just observes them. If they are regular visitors, she may dare to talk after they've been here for quite some time, but she is best at talking when only the family is here. Yes, I know, it's frustrating when people think you're making the stories up. Our Congo African Grey talks so much I have to tell her to "sssshhh, be quiet," very softly. If I say it loudly SHE repeats it loudly.

heh. Blake owes $30 million. That bird will be lucky if it isn't flipping burgers to help him pay it off.

On a side note I think everyone should put in a thought for Fred. Fred was the parrot sidekick of Robert Blake on Baretta. Seing as how Blake owes Bonnie Lee Bakley's family somewhere in the tune of $30 million, poor Fred may be eating bird seed from the local Costco instead of the high end sesame seeds from Chez Francois.
