NBC didn't report balloon accident during Macy's parade

Macys balloon accidentWhen a balloon went out of control during the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday, injuring two sisters, NBC, which was covering the parade live, did not report on the accident. Instead, the network switched to footage of the previous year's parade, and The Today Show's Katie Couric, Matt Lauer, and Al Roker who were covering the event, carried on as though nothing had happened. Couric did briefly mention the footage was old, but didn't explain why.

The injured sisters, Sarah and Mary Chamberlain, 11 and 26, are fine now, and have been offered VIP seating at next year's parade. I guess VIP seating at the Macy's parade is worth a concussion and some stitches, but a nice stack of  Macy's gift certificates, just in time for holiday shopping, would probably make them feel even better. I'm just saying.

See, what I don't get is why the street lamps cupola aren't attached better than that...seems like it would be a hazzard in a wind or heavy thunderstorm if a balloon running into them could cause one of them to fall like that. I'm just saying. puff
