Drug tests for WWE wrestlers

by Anna Johns, posted Dec 5th 2005 9:38AM
eddie guerreroAfter more than a decade of stories about pro wrestlers on drugs, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) is finally going to do something about it. WWE is going to start random drug tests for illicit drugs, steroids, and prescription drug abuse on all of its performers. The new policy may have something to do with the death of Eddie Guerrero, 38, last month. He was found dead in a hotel in Minneapolis. Initial findings show he had some sort of heart failure, but his wife blames his heart condition on his past use of drugs and alcohol and his extreme work-out routine. Vince McMahon, the man who says he's going to crack down on drug use, was once accused of pressuring wrestlers to use steroids. There are no details what the punishment will be if wrestlers are caught using drugs, but a pile driver and a half-nelson will probably be involved.

Or drugs, for that matter, Dave. There's some measure of tradition there, when it comes to rock musicians and drugs...

I agree with Brad. This is like saying rock musicians can't use guitars or drums anymore.

This makes me laugh. We know the sport is a sham and that they use steroids, so what's the reason in trying to clean it up?

Funny, this will probably be half-hearted effort, but it is still light-years ahead of MLB. Alas, the NCAA and Olympics remain the greatest source of real talent and passion.

the key to this whole thing is if the policy includes pain killers?
