The Apprentice: Finale

by Chris Thilk, posted Dec 15th 2005 11:22PM
Apprentice 4 FinaleIn what I can only term as a shocking finale to the fourth season of The Apprentice, Randall was hired by Donald Trump to oversee renovations at his Atlantic City casinos. That's not the shocking part, though. After Randall was hired, he went over and got hugs from the previously fired contestants, when all of a sudden Trump called him back to the board room table. Trump asked him if he thought Rebecca, the other finalist, should also be hired. Since Randall had always presented himself as a down-to-earth genuinely nice guy, I thought it was a slam-dunk for Rebecca that she would also be hired. Imagine my (and probably everyone else's) surprise then when he said absolutely not, that the show the was called, "THE Apprentice and not "The Apprenti." Randall had a golden opportunity to really present himself as the same kind of guy he had throught the course of the season. Instead he chose selfishness and pettiness and I'm more than a little disappointed.

Point blank Trump is the selfich prick. It's his company, therefore up to him to hire whomever he wants. He chose Randall and then sucker punched him, leaving him holding the bag. Randall did what he neede to do, being put on the spot. Rebecca lost and that is that and as far as loyalty the only person she ever stayed loyal to was Toral. Finally, Trump the chump never asked past apprentice winners to hire their opponent, especially when Kwame was qualified for the job too. In the end get over this and stop judging someone you really don't know.

Was Randall fired, I understood he could not get along with his staff?
What about Rebecca?

You folks sound absolutely insane! Most of you wouldn't share a french fry with a beggar, but now EVERYBODY would have shared their job with Rebecca because she was on a crutch. Give me a break! She totally BLEW the final task, raised NO money, had NO plan other than to make sure everyone there knew that the sponsor was Yahoo. So easy to take pot shots from the bushes, but the truth is Trump asked Randal to give HIS opinion, and that is what Randal did. End of discussion. Now go out and share something with someone today - you hypocrites!

I am really tired of all the negative and hate filled comments regarding Randals desire to be "The Apprentice". The comments border on true ignorance. I am also trying very hard not to believe that people's disdain for Randal is not racist. First of all, never in history of any reality show contest has a winner been asked to share the spotlight with runner up. Secondly, when the contestants were given the rules and instructions about the show and the shows outcome, I am pretty sure that no where was it written that the runner up would have the opportunity to share the title as "The Apprentice". Rebecca did not deserve to win. Plain and simple. She has never ran a company before, and she has not proven herself enough to win. A good education is great, it is however not enough. Randall has proven in real life that he can run a multimillion dollar company, because that is the what he was doing very well- before he even became a contestant. He worked hard (as did Rebecca), led well, and proved himself on the show. How dare people feel he should share his "moment of fame". He never said that Rebecca should not be hired. He merely stated the concept of the show. I wonder if the shoe was on the other foot, would Rebecca graciously shared her "moment in fame"? I am sure she would have not!! In addition, the audience would have been upset with Donald for even suggesting that she should? He put Randall in a bad spot, and I can't help but to wonder why? Ratings, maybe? Wise up people!! In past seasons there were contestants that were much brighter, smarter, and did better than Rebecca did, and Donald did not ask the winner to share the title. So why change the rules now? And just to show you how immature Rebecca really is. Why should she even think she should share the title. The last opportunity she was given to make money, she made a big fat O. When she was interviewed on the red carpet she made a comment about seeing who would be ahead when she gets to be 35,and other derogatory comments about her opponent. Now, if that doesn't sound like whining to me, I don't know what whining is! I would not want her running my company whining all the time. Also Donald Trump commented on how she really withstood pressure well. Looks like she blew her top to me!!

Lastly, I resent any bigot who tries to tie Randals winning to Affirmative Action (to which many have). While I will not educate readers in this forum on the importance and necessity of Affirmative Action, I will however strongly encourage and suggest that those who feel that Randal is undeserving of the title of "The Apprentice" because of Affirmative Action do a little research on the matter. It will greatly diminish your ignorance on the subject. And to viewers who feel like Rebecca deserve a rightful place of power, but did not get it. I beg to differ. She did win her place in a powerful position. She won runner up power!!! Which is still a credit to her young and inexperienced talent!!! Why would anyone wish another human bieng, God's child, to fail!!! You must be a miserable people.

The question should be about Trump's alternative agenda to change the rules at the END of the game!!!!

And then ask a contestant for permission to do it?
Randal gets a standing ovation for standing up for himself. He was treated unfairly.

Please everyone in here is downing Randall. He was clearly the better choice. Becky was a good canidate but not the best in business that doesnt cut it. Randall out performed everyone on the show and deserved to win. Trying to hire both is ridiculous. Randall was right how can you hire two apprentice? Trump never asked anyone this before why ask Randall and why now? How was Randall being selfish? He worked hard just like Becky. If Becky had won I DOUBT Trump would have asked her to share with Randall. Becky would have done the same thing in Randalls position(I dont belive her at all saying she would have hired Randall, shoot I can say anything after the fact) Randall deserved to win, no contest. he did the right thing. Go Randall!!!

All I know is that they didn't ask anybody else if they thought that the other person should be hired. I thought Randall was blunt...but was also honest. It's not about being selfish but about the purpose of the game. You finally hire a black dude and then you make him have to share. Why does the black dude suddenly have to share and be considered selfish. Bout time a brotha finally got to have something all his own. They would never ask a white person to share with a black dude...NO! If they did, Kwame would have been hired along with Bill. That's right! I said it. And hey, that's not racist, that's just bein real!

Trump liked that girl and really wanted her to be the apprentice. He knew that if he would have hired Rebecca, then he would have been called a racist. So he planned that at the apex of the black man's celebration, he would ask him to share the prize MEANT for one person. Where is the logic in that? Where is the fairness in that? That's why it's called the apprentice! Randall just thinks on a Highlander level: There can be only one.

If Trump wanted both of them, he should have hired both of them. Never ask a person to share a one man prize with another. You never know what the answer will be. Plus, Rebecca probably got hired the next day by Trump personally anyway.

So...go ahead. Call Randall a dick. Call him whatever you want. He got the job. He shouldn't have to share something that is meant for one person, and has always been meant for one person. We all would like to think that we would be nice in that situation but...we never know until we are actually in that moment. This concludes the two cents of a regular brotha.

Reality Show, Reveals the Reality of Racism!

All of you Randall haters (and haters of true African American success) need to seek psychological therapy for yourself and all your insecurities and implied racist attacks against him and other progressive African Americans like Randall. Randalls and Trumps decision to follow the official rules of the Apprentice show and other shows like it was completely justified and arguments against following the Apprentice rules are invalid. For sake of argument and to draw parallels in this case, please reference the following television contest: American Idol only has one Idol, Not Two!, Survivor only has one Survivor, Not Two! The Biggest Loser only has one Loser, Not Two! The Bachelor only has one winner, and Not Two! Like American Idol, Survivor, and the others of I have mentioned, the Apprentice contest has the equivalent final outcome with one winner. Logic is Logic is Logic. As is: Racist is Racist is Racist! albeit implied of explicit. I suggest that many of you *Randall Haters* use emotional intelligence and think before you write, post, or speak your opinion because deep rooted (often evil) emotions can cloud logic.

Bottom line: Hiring two Apprentices deviates from the official rules and would actually show favoritism and possibly even affirm the social privileges that many of you *Randall Haters* are afraid of losing or have lost. If Donald wanted to hire Rebecca after Randall won the contest, Donald would have hired her. But for Trump to even ask Randall was even implied favoritism (i.e. white privilege) in itself.

Randall is a winner with a winning Apprentice track record. Randall is a Rhodes Scholar, and CEO of his own company and now the 4th Apprentice!!! Randall not moving over to share the spot light with Rebecca, or Randall not having a plan B in the last task, or him being *too educated* (if theres such a thing) are simply weak arguments and fishing expeditions for lost privilege. Yet by many of you fishing for flaws in Randalls African American success, youve only found your true insecurities and have *blogged* those insecurities to the entire Internet universe.

In closing and to drive my point home one final time, hiring Rebecca along with Randall would have been Affirmative Action in Rebeccas favor as it was for many white women in the 1960s and 1970s. Forty some years later -now 2005 going on 2006- white privilege, disgusting racism, bigotry, and social ignorance is still very prevalent in our America like a cancer. However, Randall and many of us like him are the Chemotherapy that seeks to destroy it.. Die cancer, Die!!!

Always Remember The Revolution will not be televised!!! The Revolution is on the Internet!!!

Very disappointing. He could have shown grace, but he was a jerk instead. He changed her life forever, and I'm not sure he was the better candidate. Very disappointing. Trump should have said, "You've made your first poor decision. Don't make another. Rachel, you're hired."

Get over it people! It's the real world. Randal won and he deserves to be the winner. Good for him for staking his claim as the real winner, instead of giving us viewers a made for tv feel good ending. It's called "reality television" and Randal seems to be the only realizing that. Some times tigers eat their young.

People fail to realize how big of a problem racisim still is. Randal as a black man being hired by one of the richest white men on national television is a huge breakthrough. Look at all the reality tv shows, and tell me how many white people over minority people have won? It's insulting that Donald would try and take that away. It makes all of Randal's awesomeness look like nothing, like either way Donald would prefer a non-minority, someone like him. Trump was the one without class. If he wanted to hire Rebecca, he could have done so on antoher occasion. It's important for minority children to see that minorities can make it to the top. Trump makes Randal look like he was on the same playing field as Rebecca, which is clearly not the case. Rebecca is sooooo young, and tries to sound like she can think off the top of her head, but she can't. If she could she wouldn't have given her pre-planned speech saying Randal can't see the big picture, when she was the one who didn't even raise any money, who missed the big picture? Not Randal.
