AFA goes after Daniel

by Adam Finley, posted Dec 28th 2005 8:05AM
book of danielWho didn't see this one coming from about twelve million miles away? The Book of Daniel, the new series about a pill-popping priest who hangs out with Jesus and has a son who is gay and a daughter who sells pot has come under fire from the American Family Association. The AFA's favorite targets are shows or companies which they see as "gay friendly." The group most recently went after the Ford Motor Company for advertising in LGBT mags. They're urging a boycott of the show and its advertisers. I'm sure they have a few words for Jesus, too, and his decision to appear on this show.

From what I read the show sucks! I say lets take the Muslim faith and apply the same principles. I can promise you it would be slammed and whoever would have created it would be put on the cross. I receive the email regarding this show. I sent an email to NBC giving my 2cents. But I am a walker not a talker! I simply won't watch the show! Nor will I buy anything from any company that will air a commerical during this timeframe. I say let the show air. When it tanks, and it will. NBC will pull it off the air.

Gays and Lesbians have more disposable income than any other demographic. No to mention the whole car to consumer ratio is nearly 1:1. Why would Ford turn away from that? It wasn't a moral stand, just common sense for a company in the business of selling luxury items.

Actually, I thought Ford thought about it and eventually decided to say "up yours" to AFA after initially meeting with them. I think they realized that there are more gay potential customers than fringe-radical-right-wing-AFA-member potential customers in this world.

The AFA has more power than most people realize.

Just ask Ford, Walgreen's, and Target. They broke like piggy-banks after only days of preasure and a threat of a boycott from the AFA.

Make fun of them if you want, but they get their way.

People will definately watch it now! I live in a particularly Conservative Christian part of our great country and none of the people I know listen to what these AFA freaks have to say. Many think Will & Grace is funny (at least used to be funny), most watch Desperate Housewives, and I've heard a lot of talk about this show now that AFA has made it famous.
