Comedy Central buckles under the weight of The Cross

by Ryan j Budke, posted Dec 28th 2005 4:59PM
This is actually an update to an earlier story stating that this would probably happen. According to Boing Boing and ComedyCentral.com, the season finale of South Park, entitled Bloody Mary and featuring a statue of the Virgin Mary *ahem* bleeding, has been pulled from the season marathon tonight. As you know, many catholic groups were up in arms over the portrayal and imagery in the episode and were putting lots of pressure on Viacom to have Comedy Central delete the episode from its library. Did Comedy Central actually buckle? We'll have to tune in tonight and find out because, according to most cable and satellite providers' guides, this reporter included, the episode is going to air as scheduled. Let me know what you think, but as for me: GO TREY AND MATT!!!

UPDATE: Someone caved. So last night, Comedy Central aired the classic Dodgeball episode in the first "position" of the South Park season marathon, then moved everything back a half an hour so that the "Free Willzyx" episode showed in the last of the marathon slots. Who pushed who? I have no idea, but feel free to speculate away.

P.S. With all the child molestation that's been going on within the Catholic church, shouldn't they focus on that instead of a cartoon? That's reality and that is what should be changed! Change the rules so that priests can marry instead of hurting (the disgusting gift that keeps giving) the life of an innocent child!

This was one of the funniest South Park episodes, (if you can take a joke, that is) that I've seen. I'm a faithful watcher simply because it's some of the BEST humor on TV. I was raised very religiously (not Catholic) and I can still find humor in what is humorous. I'm so glad I have this episode on TEVO as I'll enjoy watching it over & over again. Comedy Central - keep it up!

Remember folks, its just a cartoon show.

An unbelievably funny cartoon show (and one of my favorite shows of all time), but a cartoon show none the less. Hell I'm a Catholic and I think that the Catholic's are ruining everything fun! That episode was great.

The whole damn show built to that one line: "chicks bleed out of their vaginas all the time." Classic.

TVSquad buckles under the cross! For those that don't know, the issue isn't just that the statue bleeds. The statue bleeds out of its ass, or so the townspeople think. Finally the pope visits the statue and determines that it is actually bleeding from its vagina, which is no miracle, because "chicks bleed out of their vaginas all the time."

I find it strange that Comedy Central would buckle and not show this episode considering that in the secret stash they show the Southpark Movie, Clerks, and the Pamela Anderson Roast all uncut and uncensored.

Oh puh-LEEEEEZE...Get a frickin' LIFE, for pity's sake!!! Not EVERYONE in these United States is religious and NOT ALL broadcast media/programming is for EVERYONE!!! If you don't like it and if your television has a "dial" on it, then, GIVE THAT M@!#%$F*@%ER A SPIN!!! I dunno 'bout YOU, but I woke up in a country that (at least B-4 bushism too hold) GUARANTEES FREEDOM OF SPEECH!!!!!!!

"Buckle?"

Yes, it was Comedy Central to buckle... when they allowed this to air in the first place.

Some of you TV Squad writers make me sick.
