'The Closer' shuts door on competition

by Jonathan Toomey, posted Dec 29th 2005 9:25AM

The CloserThe Closer, TNT's new drama series, has now been ranked as the most watched original cable series of 2005. It ranked first in all basic cable networks in total viewership and other key demographic categories. That's a pretty good honor for a freshman show which was competing with other basic cable programs such as Monk, The Dead Zone, The 4400, Nip/Tuck, The Shield, and Rescue Me. High-five to Kyra Sedgwick.

Gordy took the words right out of my mouth. The Closer is a terrific show. I happened to stumble upon it after it had been on the air for a couple of weeks. After that, I never missed a single episode. Kyra is perfection in her role. I'm so glad she decided to spend some time on "the small screen." I'm glad to see the program get some well-deserved recognition.

I love The Closer. It deserves the honor, for taking the same mold [perfected by Law & Order, of course] and beefing up the writing and character development departments. Each episode--except for the finale--kept me guessing.

While shows like the CSI and SVU focus on graphic images and grody sexual references, The Closer just tells a great story with interesting characters.
