Does Jenna Elfman deserve another show?
If you've been watching CBS a lot lately (especially if you're watching
football), you probably haven't been able to avoid the ads for Courting Alex, a new sitcom starring Jenna Elfman. You
don't really learn anything about the show, as the ads only show Jenna dancing in hot pants and a bikini top, hair and
make-up done up to the maximum. Then as the dance music blares and she wriggles around, Jenna stops and says, "Why
am I dressed like this? I play a lawyer!" and she flirtingly walks off-screen.Now, I like Jenna Elfman. She's funny and sexy in a way that's completely unthreatening. I even liked her last series, Dharma & Greg, because -- at least for the first few seasons -- her loopy Dharma played well against Thomas Gibson's uptight Greg. But, for some reason, the general public opinion about her has been decidedly mixed. Some people thought she was never funny. Others thought Jenna wasn't even good looking (I had seen descriptions like "gawky" and "flat-chested", and those were the nicer ones).
So Jenna's critics might be loading up the ammo for Courting Alex. They may have a live target, though; the fact that the promos don't show scenes from the pilot is a very, very bad sign. Also, the fact that the show has had three different names can't be a good thing, either.
So, let me ask the audience out there: Does Jenna deserve another shot? Let me know in the comments.
