The Five: Shows I resolve to watch in 2006

by Anna Johns, posted Jan 1st 2006 11:20AM
There really isn't any hard and fast rule for the way that I came up with my list. There aren't a whole lot of new shows coming out during the mid-season that I want to watch. I'm tired of law shows and there are way too many 'Single in the City' sitcoms coming out (although I do include just one of them on my list). I may give Skating with Celebrities a chance out of morbid curiosity, but there's no way I'm resolving to watch it. Here are the shows that I plan to watch faithfully in 2006:

5. Veronica Mars If Joss Whedon says this is the "Best. Show. Ever." I believe him. I really missed the boat on this one and now that we're halfway through season two, I've got a lot of catching up to do. Most of that catching up with be done on DVD. And hopefully I can catch this season's reruns during the summer so I'll be ready for season three in the fall.
4. Battlestar Galactica  My husband watched the first season, so I sort-of gleaned some of it from him. I did watch most of season two so far and I have to admit that it is pretty darn good. It starts up again next week on SciFi. I enjoy watching Dr. Baltar slowly go crazy and that Starbuck chick kicks ass!

3. Love Monkey  Unlike my first two picks, I'm going to try to get in on the ground floor on this one. I like Tom Cavanaugh, I like Jason Priestley, and I've heard good things about the book upon which this sitcom is based. Sure, it's, like, one of at least three new sitcoms about being single in New York, but this one seems to have all the right pieces in place.

2. America's Next Muppet  ABC is supposed to air six episodes of this Muppets spoof on reality television in late Spring/early Summer. The idea is that characters will be auditioning to become the newest member of the Muppets. Having grown up on the Muppets, I can't ignore it. I really did not enjoy Muppets Wizard of Oz, but Muppets in Space and Muppets Treasure Island were funny enough to give me hope that the franchise has not died.

1. Lost  I just want you to know that there's no way I'm giving up this show. No. Freakin'. Way.

What shows are you looking forward to in 2006?

Just discovered your site and I like it.

Here are my must-watch shows (not necessarily in order): Veronica Mars, South of Nowhere, Gilmore Girls, CSI, Lost.

I was surprised not to see Gilmore Girls on the list or in the comments. I've been disappointed with the new shows so far but might give Love Monkey a try.

Hooked on Veronica Mars, since the begining. I liked Reunion, too bad it was canceled. Grey's Anatomy is a don't miss. Still like original CSI. Never miss Gunsmoke reruns on TV Land. Desperate Housewives, is a great lead in to Grey's Anatomy.

i already watch Lost. I hope to start watching ER again, but i've missed so many episodes and everytime i watch it seems to not grab my attention.
I want to start watching Veronica Mars, i've seen snippets of a few, and it's good. i like it.
I want to see the new Heather Graham show, give that a chance.
I will DEFINITELY watch the new Muppets show, it sounds hilarious, way better than actually watching American Idol, which i despise.
oh and Jake in Progress. He's so cute and sarcastic, i love that. i didn't think it'd make it to season 2, i didn't want to get too attached. Same with Grey's Anatomy, i love that show. I have to wait to sucky Desperate Housewives is over, to turn to ch. 7 to watch it!
i don't know if that's more than 5.
i also faithfully watch Arrested Development and Everwood. i haven't given up on Everwood.
this is my first season not watching Alias, after Vaughn's death, i kinda gave up on it.

I won't miss watching any of the following tv shows: Lost, Grey's anatomy, desparate housewives, 24, bones, house, invasion, threshold, surface, book of daniel, er, csi and law & order. I wish that shield and nip/tuck were on at a decent time. Guess I'll have to resort to Netflix for those.

Veronica Mars should be on everybody's "must-see" list. To the person above who said they couldn't get into it, you really need to start with the Season One DVD. The plot is a bit too complicated to fully appreciate if you jump into it midstream.

My personal resolution is to get caught up with Battlestar Galactica. I've got lots of episodes on Tivo, but I plan to get the DVDs to get caught up first. It also seems quite complicated for new viewers.

With the extra days off over the holidays, I finally watched all of the previous episodes of "Surface" and I'm hooked. It's a very interesting show, and moves at a a good pace to keep me interested in the next episode. It's also like a mini-series in that the story keeps moving along.

I'm looking forward to it.

Totally agree with Battlestar Galactica. It is one of the best shows on TV. Can't wait for the return on Friday.

AFI also listed Sleeper Cell as one of the top ten shows and I'd totally agree. You guys should start covering that one.

I'm going to try and get through the whole season of Firefly so I can understand what all the 'Whedonverse' hype is about. I can't even begin to contemplate the time suck involved in trying to absorb Buffy and Angel. Like everyone else, I, too, would like to get caught up on BSG. Somehow, though, I think resolving to watch even -more- TV in 2006 might prevent me from achieving...well, anything else. Not that I mind.

Why doesn't some network pick up American Dreams reruns
What a Great lost of a Family show like that...
