Futurama movie in 2007?

futuramaEverybody knows you can't take "upcoming" entries on IMDb seriously, but the readers over on Digg are either extremely hopeful or are in utter denial. A recent(?) entry on IMDb shows a Futurama show coming to be, sometime in 2007, though most likely straight-to-video. So, if this is the real deal, what would you rather see of the movie: a kick-off for the renewed series, or a nice wrap-up of the series?

Cinematical wrote on the "confirmation" of this movie long ago.

That entry in the IMDB was a hoax, placed there earlier in 2005 by a Futurama fan as an exercise to show that content on IMDB is unreliable and can be made up by anyone.
While the producers of Futurama seem to be hopeful, there is still no news on any revival of the show.

Futurama was amazingly funny and clever at the same time. and by clever, i reference most of the staff writers having phDs in physics and mathematics. i'm excited and sad at the same time for the upcoming movie, because it probably means to true end to the series but at least we get something. my fingers are crossed!

Futurama had at least two or three more seasons left in it. I'd love to see this as a re-birth for the series.

Groening must have a fair wodge of cash by now, he should just fund it himself like Lucas does with Star Wars. It would surely make the money back on dvd, he'd be laughing.

I would like to see this movie kick off just one more season, with a quasi-wrap up at the end, leaving open the possibility of future episodes.

But I will take anything, so long as it isn't as bad as the Farscape "a season worth of material in a few hours" Peacekeeper War wrap up.

Well, it can't be a kickoff if there is no new series, and if there's a new series than a wrap up would be strange. And what is there that really needs to be wrapped up?

Movies of shows almost always suck. I think a show like Futurama works great in it's 22 minute format, and I think would have trouble sustaining 90 minutes.

Groening had said much earlier in the year that he was hoping to do a movie, recently (within the last two months) he was quoted as being more hopeful and said that the recent ressurection and success of Family Guy has caught Fox's attention, that Futurama is doing very well on DVD and in re-runs and that he has been approached about the idea of resurrecting the show for a regular series. He stated that it was too early to confirm whether it would be a definite 'go' though.
