Ask TV Squad: Can you get us in touch with...?

by Joel Keller, posted Jan 6th 2006 3:23PM
We
don't know anyone who works for this showReading through the TV Squad comments sometimes makes me scratch my head. Don't get me wrong, I think that, as a whole, we have a group of witty, thoughful, and funny commenters who love TV as much as we do, and we're grateful for that. But some of the comments we see.... boy, they just really make you wonder sometimes.

For instance, we're still receiving comments on our December posts about the game show Deal or No Deal. If you notice, some of the comments ask us to provide information on how to become a contestant. Others, though, actually ask us to pass people's information along to the show so they can become contestants! And that's just in the comments that users confirmed; there are plenty of unconfirmed comments asking us the same questions.

I think these folks have us all wrong; we're just a bunch of TV fans who sit in our homes and offices and spew about what we see and what we read about that glowing box in front of us. We really don't know anybody in the industry (well, except maybe for fellow WIN blogger Wil Wheaton, but only by occasional e-mails). Honest. So, if you want us to pass word along to one of the shows or celebrities we profile here, here's my advice: try this great little search engine we use all the time. We've found it actually works pretty well.

Just found your website while doing a search to try and answer a question that came to mind:

"How does a show's shooting schedule work when they film in the L.A. area and 'on location' work is involved (for example, CSI: Miami's season opener, and the Rio scenes... or even scenes that show Miami locales)?

I realize that L.A. locations can double for Miami in some cases, but when those can't, do they shoot the Miami scenes for several episodes on location at one time?

I believe CSI: NY shoots in L.A. too, but shows the cast in Manhattan settings from time to time (not talking here of establishing shots; I'm curious about scenes that involve the cast).

It seems that a guy who's lived in L.A. all his life should know such things, but this one is a puzzle I haven't figured out.

Keep up the good work. I've been addicted to this site since I found it.

Actually, for contestant info, I've found this blog to be pretty helpful:

http://www.allyourtv.com/contestants/weblog.php

They list a lot of contestant searches for shows I've never even heard of.

Can you ask Wil Wheton how I go about becoming an extra on Star Trek: The Next Generation?

Also, I would like an extra value meal #2 supersized with a diet coke.
