Will Google take on TV ads?

Larry Page of Google will be speaking at the Consumer Electronics
Show this week, and while no one knows what he's going to say exactly, Robert X. Cringely likes to think that maybe
Google is looking to create an approach to television advertising that's similar to the company's approach to Web ads.
In other words, certain ads shown during a particular program would be tailored to your individual taste. This seems a
little too "Big Brother" to me, but Cringely makes a valid point when he says that the majority of television
advertising is a waste because most people watching have no real interest in the product. By creating a method of
pinpointing viewers who are actually interested, it makes the ads more lucrative and less intrusive. In theory, at
least, this seems like a good idea. Chris has more info on this over at Ad Jab.
