Future of "Deadwood" Looks Alive

by Jonathan Toomey, posted Jan 7th 2006 7:30PM

DeadwoodThe third season doesn't even premiere until this coming June, but HBO is already close to greenlighting a fourth season of the gritty Western drama starring Timothy Olyphant and Ian McShane. This isn't the first time HBO has jumped the gun on a popular series though. Six Feet Under was good to go for a second season before the pilot episode even aired. Initially set to return in March at the same time as The Sopranos, Deadwood got bumped until June to make way for a new series called Big Love (it stars Bill Paxton as a polygamist). Good to know that Deadwood will be around right through 2007 though.

Has anyone heard when they are going to do the fire? I know a fire essentially razed the real Deadwood just about the time they are at in the series. Maybe it'll be the season ender this season, or maybe the series ender?

This is all well and good, but I want Rome back, too.

Sweet. I hope the quality of the show stays the same, because the first two seasons are as good as anything I've ever seen, and not just on TV.
