Do not deny Colbert's truthiness

by Adam Finley, posted Jan 11th 2006 5:43PM
colbert reportIf you caught The Colbert Report last night, you heard Stephen tooting his own horn over the fact that "truthiness," a word/phrase he claims to have coined, was chosen as the Word of the Year by the American Dialect Society (ADA). I assumed, like probably many others, that Stephen was completely and utterly full of crap, having a bit of fun with all of us. The folks over at BC Beat dug a bit deeper, however, and found that yes, there is in fact an American Dialect Society, and yes, "truthiness" is indeed the 2005 Word of the Year. I doff my hat to you, old timer. You are indeed a wordsmith to be reckoned with, and I am humbled in your presence.

How can anyone doubt Colbert?!?! I've watched every episode since day 1 and I was there when he used 'Truthiness' a good amount of time before his word was made word of the year. Colbert is the greatest late night talk show on television. Why? Two words: The Word. :) If there is no word, THERE IS NO STORY.

How cynical of you to doubt Colbert. I never thought for a second that the American Dialect Assocition was legit. Just because everything on his show is ludicrously buffonish, doesnt mean that one thing isnt real. I mean, if he can get Rick springfield, or Steven Van Zant on his show, then you know his statements must be credible.
