Things I Hate About TV: Seeing Jared Fogle on the post-game show

by Joel Keller, posted Jan 15th 2006 7:41PM
Jared Fogle of SubwayYou all know Jared Fogle. He's the guy who lost thirty kajillion pounds by eating nothing but Subway sandwiches (veggie and turkey, of course... what, you think he lost weight on foot-long chicken parm subs?) and has basically been the chain's spokesman ever since. He's been an inspiration to a lot of people who are overweight. But, honestly, there are some places that I really don't want to see old Jared's smiling face.

One of them is on the post-game show after a thrilling NFL playoff game. Right after the Steelers stunned the Colts in a wild game, the CBS studio guys discussed the game and interviewed Steelers players. So far, so good. But then Greg Gumbel throws it over to Jared, dressed in a Colts jersey and surrounded by those flavorless Subway sandwiches. "I know you guys are going to Denver next week, and I wanted to send you off with some good food," is the gist of what Jared unconvincingly said to the studio crew as he waved his hand over the subs. Greeeaaat. Look, CBS, I know it's called the Subway Post-Game Show. But having Jared in the studio was completely tasteless and silly, especially after such an exciting playoff game. I mean, what's next? Is Boomer Esiason going to munch on Domino's Chicken Kickers during next week's pre-game show?

I had the same reaction as you Joel, and apparently was just as slow with the remote. :D This, coupled with the whoring out of Las Vegas last week, is not a good sign as far as the direction of television.

Jeez, so I have to defend when I switch between games now? I was probably doing something else at the time and wasn't right on top of the remote. Man, this is a rough crowd.

Well, uh, the early game ran longer than average. There were only like 10 minutes before the next game started. So, if you opted to stick around to listen to the CBS idiots who really have nothing to talk about for another week as opposed to the FOX idiots who had an actual game coming up, then, yeah: "Duhhhhh."

Ya mean dere was anudder game on? I guess I wuz to dum to reelise dat. Duhhhhh....

Seriously, the Fox game hadn't quite started, so it was a choice between a post-game or a pre-game. I chose the post-game. Guess I made the wrong choice.

Well, thankfully for most of us, when the game was over we just flipped it right on over to Fox for the second game...
