Showtime picks up season two of Masters of Horror

by Keith McDuffee, posted Jan 26th 2006 8:37AM
maters of horrorOK, I admit I dropped the ball on providing reviews of each episode of this series, though I've definitely been watching it religiously. Once this first season is over, I'll provide a recap. What's that? Did I say "season?" Yep, that's right -- a second season is coming for Showtime's Masters of Horror. While a list of directors for next season hasn't been listed yet, be prepared for an additional 13 episodes for season two.

The show is rarely bad (the zombie one) mostly good, and sometimes great (Cigarette Burns, Jenifer).

Stop whining.

I generally agree with the above comments. Masters of Horror has had quite a few episodes that went on way to long, and didn't have much of a payoff to justify the time invested. "Dance of the Dead" and "Jenifer" were horrible.

However, I just caught "Cigarette Burns", which renewed my faith in the show. It had some truly twisted and wonderfully uncomfortable moments.

So while the show is very inconsistent, I would say it's worth checking out. There are a few gems to be found.

I second the previous comment. This show pretty much lost me after the Robert Englund one. I did watch one or two others but found them to be cliche and a bit yawn worthy.

I also second the bit about Takashi Miike. I mean, what did they expect? Miike isnt known for subtlety.

I'm a regular watcher, but I have to wait until the weekend to see them on OnDemand. I noticed that there were 2 episodes that weren't in the list. I don't recall the episode numbers though.

I was very excited about this show......WAS! I watched the first few episodes, and to be honest, they were more sleep inducing than horror. The last one I watched was the one with Robert Englund, where the big reveal at the end was they prod dead zombies to dance and spaz around while people cheered, it was a BIG letdown.

Now Showtime won't air the episode directed by Miike because of a graphic abortion scene, which sounds like a good episode....I read a recap from reviewers. This is Masters of HORROR....there is suppose to be graphic horror scenes. Now the creators are going to put out a DVD with the Miike episode intact. Great, so people who bought Showtime for Masters of Horror...there are a few....will have to buy the DVD to actually get to see it.

Showtime and the producers of this show really dropped the ball with this show....it could have been golden!
