Book of Daniel to be streamed online

by Chris Thilk, posted Jan 31st 2006 11:58AM
Coming shortly after the show got axed from NBC's broadcast schedule comes word the unaired episodes of The Book of Daniel will be streamed online for the next three weeks. The episode that would have aired last Friday is now available on NBC.com, with the two remaining episodes appearing for a week each beginning this Friday. Click the "Videos" portion of NBC's site and you'll find it. As Joseph Jaffe says here it's an interesting opportunity for networks who cancel shows on the broadcast side of things to test the viability of moving these shows to an on-demand model. That way they're not reliant on the whims of advertisers but simply to the demands of the marketplace.

I wasn't able to watch this show because I watch too much tv, but this news is great. Even though the network got bombarded by all the extreme groups, this can show the network that the show either was a hit or not. Prior to shows showing up in the itunes store, I always wondered why a station wouldn't release episodes. (This was before I had 2 tivos)

I really like this idea of releasing shows to the viewers even if they do pad the show with a 30 or 60 second ad at the begining. At least they know they have our attention. This could be the start of some changes with network tv.
