Google admits Google Video needs work

Google VideoIf you've been somewhat underwhelmed by Google Video, you're not alone. The site is lacking in many of the ways that typically make new ventures from Google cool and exciting. Even Google's own Marissa Mayer has said it was a mistake not to feature popular shows like CSI and Survivor (which can be downloaded at a cost) on the home page, since it was those shows Google was using to promote the idea of Google Video in the first place. That oversight has been corrected, but Google still trails far behind Apple's more successful iTunes store. I think Google can still create something cool from this, but for the first time it seems the company may have tripped on its own feet coming out the door.

Google video needs work. In other news, the sun came up today, getting kicked in the groin hurts, and 2+2 is still 4.

If they want to actually take on the iTunes video store, start with making the DRM reasonable, and follow that up with a high resolution option.

That's the thing, previously big technology companies could get away with lacklustre interfaces because that was all their was. With apple doing such a great job with iTunes and the rest of their stuff, hopefully people will start demanding better out of their tech.
