Sweeps stunts are tame in February

mandy moore zach braffNovember sweeps stunts brought us stormtroopers on The Apprentice, a live debate on The West Wing, a dead chick on Lost and Medium in 3-D. Why are February ratings so tame? One word: Olympics.

NBC is expected to kick some television tail when it covers the Olympics every single night from February 10-26. Going into this month, the networks are touting some pretty uninteresting guest stars on the shows that need a boost. And that's about it. Oh, there is also going to be some sh*t going down on The O.C., but you don't want the spoilers, do you?

Here are some highlights for February sweeps, which began yesterday and run through March 1:
Scrubs: Mandy Moore (rumored to be Zach Braff's fiance) guest stars in back-to-back episodes on NBC next Tuesday, Feb. 7th.

Grammy Awards: Madonna joins Gorillaz for a live performance, and probably a Kanye West love-fest. Wednesday, Feb. 8th on CBS.

George Lopez: Brings his real-life kidney transplant story to the small screen in a storyline for his son, guest starring Ken Howard on ABC next Wednesday, Feb. 8th.

American Idol: We finally start voting for our favorite performers starting on Tuesday, February 21.

Will & Grace: Hall and Oates (seriously?) guest star on Thursday, Feb. 9th.

Arrested Development: Series Season finale starring Justine Bateman. FOX on Feb. 10th.

Dr. Phil Primetime Special: Just in time for Valentine's Day, Dr. Phil tries to help Paula Abdul find a mate. Airs on CBS on Feb. 14.

According to Jim: Gets the award for most uncomfortable guest appearance when Julie Newmar guest stars as a feuding neighbor (Jim Belushi and Newmar are famous for their real-life neighbor feud). Feb. 21 on ABC.

Twins: Nick Lachey's new sitcom premieres on Friday, Feb. 24th on WB. I wonder if this one will make the jump to The CW?

The Bachelor: Paris: Dude chooses his mate, and then a week later they break up. Finale airs Feb. 27th on ABC.

America's Next Top Model: Where the Girls Are: Tyra catches up with past contestants on the show. March 1 on UPN.

What's with the crossed out "Series"? Is there any chance AD is coming back? Or is that just wishful hoping? God I wish it didn't have to end.

I don't think "Twins" is the new Nick Lachey sitcom. It's the show starring Sarah Gilbert and Melanie Griffith, and he's just making a guest appearance.
