Bill O'Reilly thinks Colbert Report is a compliment

by Anna Johns, posted Feb 5th 2006 4:06PM
colbert oreillyIn this week's Newsweek magazine, Bill O'Reilly spins The Colbert Report in his favor. Despite being an obvious target of Colbert, O'Reilly says he finds the comedy "refreshing". In true Bill O'Reilly fashion, he conjures up a statistic and hypocritically says of his detractors, "Ninety percent of them are just vicious and they use their platform to injure people." I imagine he's including Keith Olbermann in that statistic.

O'Reilly basically laughs off The Colbert Report a rip-off of his own show, saying, "This formula of his program is they match The Factor and they seize upon themes that work for them. He ought to be sending me a check every week, 'cause we're basically the research for the writers." Do you think Bill understands the word 'satire'?

O'Reilly is only one tiny part of a much larger article on The Colbert Report. You can read it here.

O'Reilly is such a douche. First he criticizes Colbert (when he was guest on the Daily Show), then, when he (finally) realizes it's some sort of publicity, he embraces it and add this to his credit.
Although Colbert's show is funny in it's own right (it's a comedy show), O'Reilly's tireless tirades and shameless appropriation of issues occasionnally make me laugh.
War on Christmas... still laughing. Can't wait next year.

You know, the O'Rilley bashing is really getting old. It's clear that Weblogs. Inc, for the most part, is made up of mostly left wingers. So, Bill doesn't fit in with your ideology, let it go. He's an infotainer, just like Stewart. He wants ratings, and the only way to get noticed the the ultra left wing media is to be loud and obnoxious.

I wouldn't classify Colbert as a liberal. Stewart, yes, but not Colbert.

First of all, he's Catholic, fairly conservative about social policies and on occasion defended Bush against slams about not keeping his religion separate from his politics, which he regards as impossible for anyone.

Of course, O'Reilly isn't exactly a strident conservative, either. He's not anti-homosexuality, he supports gay adoption, and he's not against pornography.

I've probably sealed the fate for these two men now. Those with coarse reasoning will run them into the dirt for not neatly fitting in their liberal-vs.-conservative universe, much like what happened to Dennis Miller.

Poor O'Reilly! The man can't open his mouth without confirming the impression that he's Ted Baxter with a mean streak. Pass the loofah!

When liberal ideas don't win in an arena of debate, do a satire of conservatives. The great thing about that is liberals can hide their opinions while making fun of conservatives. A win-win situation. Genius! .... I miss Crossballs.

At least Comedy Central still has South Park.
