Gilmore Girls feud didn't sit well with Lauren Graham

Gilmore Girls Friday fight!As much as I like Gilmore Girls, I was never happy with the Rory/Lorelai feud that dominated the first half of this season. Why? Because the interplay between Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel, the cornerstone of the show for its first five seasons, was forcibly removed. Not that I didn't support the storyline; Rory had to come of age at some point and had to separate herself from her mother/best friend to become a healthy adult. But to stretch that out for half a season turned the show into a big drag.

Many fans and TV critics felt the same way I did. Now we know we weren't alone. According to this article by David Bauder of the AP, Graham wasn't happy with the storyline either, mainly because she missed working with Bledel every day, but also because she felt it was out of character for Lorelai to freeze out her daughter/best friend for so long.

"I struggled with the idea that this character, being the parent, would go so far as to stop speaking to her daughter and not make more of an effort," she told Bauder. "We had it in bits and pieces, but it was hard for me to justify that I wouldn't try harder, that I wouldn't reach out more, that I could stand to be away from her for that long."

She also speaks about the long days she puts in filming the show, and the prospects that the show will go another year. Bauder also speaks to Amy Sherman-Palladino, who still wants to remove herself and her husband from the show despite the fact that their new series fell through when the WB/UPN merger was announced. the fued may have lasted to long between lorelai and rory but i still LOVED the show my absolute favorite!!! i hate it that its gonna be gone... i would have loved to see lor and luke to get married and i hated that rory and logan didnt... but id like to see it turn around cuz they love each other too... i wished that gilmore girls could keep going and that the cast and crew or wat enver would change theyre mind about the show but thats a decision that they would have to make....

I love Gilmore Girls. I also love American Idol but since I can't watch them both at the same time, I watch Gilmore Girls. However, I don't like that the writers are making Luke act so strange. Why won't he share his daughter with the woman he loves? Luke would never freak out like that about this. Please fix the problem so that more people don't go to other shows for lack of interest. I have to agree with most of all the other comments that I have read about the show. However, I am a loyal fan so I will not abandon the show. Still it would be nice if I wasn't saddened every Tuesday night by Luke's very strange and uncharacteristic behavior.

I agree, partly. At first the conflict of Rory and Lorelai was too much, lasted too long. But, as it went on and i wanted it to end and Lorelai kept saying, no it's not time yet OR she'll call when she's ready OR she'll come to me when she's ready - whatever all those things were that she said when Luke or someone would tell her to go and talk to Rory.

I - ME - wanted it to end. But, true to the characters, Lorelai knew what she was doing. She knows her daughter and I think it was kind of cool how they made the audience feel that way - they made us go against Lorelai, they made us doubt her like her parents do - but, as always when it comes to Rory, she's RIGHT.

not totally cought up with the whole 6th season but it truly dissapoints me about april! i am also starting to realize loralai does not have such deep fellings for luke anymore. i am so worried they are going to split up because i love seeing them in love! first of all why would anna not tell luke about her? yes she tells why on the show but in real life come on people this is a real child! and then for luke not to tell loralai for a WHOLE 2 months! that is a long time! and why wont luke let loralai meet her? if they are going to get married april and loralia need to know each other alot more than they do now. but know on to rory! she has broken up with logan what 3 times now? and they were big break ups to. she needs to realize if she really likes him or not. because what i see is her just kiss him and move in with him but she does not truly care. jess she cared about thats why i cant wait till this weeeks eposoid to see what happens when jesss comes back! this is to long already so got to go! and never forget to live like a true Gilmore Girl or guy i guess but the show is called gilmore girls and i am a girl so i was just sayin) lol *PEACE

I love gilmore girls so much but the story is getting all turned aroud they need to get back to the qurky charm of stars hollow.They also need for luke and lorelai to get married because i think the relationship between them is to werid right now luke loves lorelai and lorelai loves luke!

I've watched Gilmore Girls since the first episode and have loved every one of them. The fight between Mom and Daughter lasted waaaaay too long, but it's better now. I agree though about the repeats. These constant repeats bum me out, especially since I only watch about 4 hours of TV a week and this is a major part of it. Let Luke and Loreli get married! Don't drag that out forever either.

I along with I think everyone else was dissapointed with the dominating feud between them. I wasn't overly excited about watching next weeks episode as i have been for 6 years. And now that the show is back on track you get a good episode and then 3 weeks of repeats. i am no expert but that can't be good for ratings. Especially now that its Tuesday time slot is being shared with American Idol. I love gilmore girls but now there are so may repeats i am finding myself TIVOing Gilmore Girls and watching A.I. even if it is a new episode. Maybe because of A.I. is why they are showing repeats? Just with all the hooha of the Rory/Loreli fight i just wish they'd kick it back in to gear with weekly episodes. I don't know i'm just saying.

I completly agree with Lauen Graham. The feud should NOT have lasted that long. I completely adore the show and the two bright, strong, independent women who play the roles of Lorelai and Rory Gilmore. And I really didn't like the beginning of the sixth season at all. There wasn't nearly as much humor as there had been in other seasons, and the sohw had a much darker side. And what happened to all the townies?!! There's almost always some out-there townie story line behind the main events. The sixth season is better now, but I hated the beginning.

I love the Gilmore Girls its one of the best shows ever...
I havent seen the 6th season yet (because in Austria they are still showing the 5th season), but I already know the whole story. And i think it really is a pity, that the relationship between Rory and Lorelai now is so different from all the other seasons. Because this relationship has always been one of the main reasons, why the Gilmore Girls were/are/will be sooooooooo fantastic.
But whatIm really happy about is the relationship between Luke and Lorelai. Finally theyve found each other and thats what weve all been waiting for, for years.
I hope that the 6th season has at least kept the typical Gilmore humour;-)
Im really looking forward to the 6th season, though...

I feel bad about saying something negative about the Gilmore Girls since the show is a favorite of mine and the women in my family but I just have to. The storyline this year is horrible! The length of the fued between Lorelai and Rory was way too long. Neither character would have stayed that angry. I have a close relationship with my daughter and I would have done something to get back together with her. And what are they doing to Luke's character? For that matter what are they doing to the rest of the weird and wonderful citizens of Stars Hollow? Nothing! Let's get back to the formula that made the Gilmore Girls the best show on TV for the last 5 years.
