Things I Hate About TV: Da Vinci shows

Mona LisaAlright, let me set the record straight before I begin... The Da Vinci Code was totally over-hyped, but I enjoyed it. I am an art student and I have great appreciation for the work of Leonardo da Vinci. I think Mona Lisa is a pretty nifty chick even though the whole "shaved eyebrows" thing is kind of crazy. Got it? Good. Now, let me say... Dear, magical world of television: Please stop making Da Vinci Code shows.

Cracking the Da Vinci Code, Da Vinci Declassified, Exposing the Da Vinci Code... These are just three of the millions (I might be over-estimating a little) of Code-related shows that claim that they will illuminate secrets that you never knew before. I saw one a few years ago and thought it was pretty cool. Then I saw another one. And another. And another. They're impossible to avoid if you watch stuff like the History Channel a lot.

After three or four, these shows just become redudant. Not everything in the book was true? Y'don't say. Why don't they come up with a new TV special once someone (da Vinci, perhaps? Or Christ, even?) can actually confirm or dispell something new (i.e. Robert Langdon is a real guy and it all really happened, the "Mona Lisa" is but a figment of our collective imaginations)? It'd be a lot nicer than seeing another special that says, in summary, "Dan Brown's full of crap!"

Why am I complaining now? Well, these specials are still airing, despite the fact that the book was released years ago and the hype has died down significantly. Plus, the new film adaptation is to be released this year, which will surely prompt more of these specials to be released (or re-run, at least). I might have to beat someone over the head with a golden chalice if I see another...

I completely agree. I have been annoyed each morning by the in-your-face coverage for the DaVinci Code movie on The Today Show. Everyday they show another exclusive clip. They might as well air the whole movie.
