Survivor: Panama: Episode 3

by Deidre Woollard, posted Feb 17th 2006 12:18AM
We are still in the early stages of Survivor but it's already starting to get interesting. The older men are definitely rocking the house this go round. Bruce enters his new tribe and becomes both handy and extremely annoying in seconds. He has some sort of water filtration method that everyone seems to take his word for as being bacteria-free because after all, he's still alive. He thinks this means he will become the leader of Casaya and he definitely seems to have a calming effect on the tribe because they can get annoyed at him and cease the endless infighting. Bruce is a great target for Shane because he doesn't engage in the drama. Meanwhile at La Mina a certain lack of spear leads to unsuccessful fishing. They try and try but mainly end up with inedible pufferfish. Once again, Terry proves to be the hero, producing a tiny but chubby fish.

The reward is for tarps, lanterns, fuel and rope. The challenge involves using a catapult to shoot balls out to where tribemates are waiting on a platform. Both tribes do really well and it comes down to one catch but once again La Mina wins. Casaya has to send someone to Exile Island. It's La Mina's choice and they choose to send Bruce back to Exile Island. He looks shaken but manages to stay upbeat as he leaves.Torrential rains begin and out on Exile Island one very wet Bruce huddles up and tries to stay dry. Over at Casaya everyone seems to be insane without their zen master. Shane is angry, bitter and not helpful. Courtney's New Age attitude has eroded into whining and Cirie can only laugh at the alliance of people who hate each other.

As always happens at the prosperous tribe, life is free and easy at La Mina and it's all massages and strategies. Austin is enjoying being the most wanted man when it comes to alliances and having two attractive women trying to persuade him and Nick to their side.

The immunity challenge involves digging in the sand and fighting for a bag. Cirie proves her worth by being a tough fighter but Missy is pretty tough too. Casaya gets the first point. La Mina wins the second point when Nick pulls away with the bag. Aras gets the bag, passes it to Shane but Austin manages to bring the bag to their side. It's a very rough and physical battle with everyone fighting very intensely. Aras wins and so yet again, there is a tie. It looks like La Mina is going to win as Ruth Marie runs for goal but Bobby comes from behind, grabs her shirt and basically hauls the tiny, wiry woman over to his mat giving the win to Casaya.

Ruth Marie seems to be the obvious target over at La Mina. But Dan and Terry want to take Misty out. Austin and Nick are straddling both alliances as we move to tribal. Misty gets voted out so we definitely know that Austin and Nick weren't persuaded by the massages.

Since Survivor is a sport of sorts it seems to me that we should have a Survivor of the week. This week it has to be Terry. He may not have brought home the big victory for his tribe but he did bring home the little fish. Who's your pick?

Why doesn't the show offer a pack of cigarettes as part of the reward? Or better yet, attach a pack to a fishing line and cast it out in front of Shane during a challenge. I think we would see Shane at his nuttiest yet if a pack of cigarettes were dangling in front of him during a challenge.

My favorite part of the whole episode was during the Immunity challenge when Shane yelled "Bring me the bag, Aras" and he did. Crazy Shane is good TV!

If you ask me, I think it was dumb to vote out Misty because Ruth Marie seemed much weaker. Maybe I just feel that way because I would have liked to see Misty play more. I think that Austin and Nick should have tried to change Dan and Terry's mind so that they voted out Ruth Marie instead. That way Nick and Austin could remain loyal to both alliances and put themselves in a much better position for the future.

What I can't figure out is why there is any problem with fresh water when it rains buckets every other day. Why don't they use leaves and capture some of it? It seems the producers looked long and hard to find people that have 1.) never watched Survivor before and 2.) don't have a clue how to live without a cell phone and a latte. The exceptions are Terry and Bruce. Odds are Bruce will go next when his tribe has to attend tribal council - he's a little too weird and self assured. Big Target.

Sally should have gone for the spear loss last week IMO. I have never used a fish spear but simple logic would dictate you wouldn't use in it water deeper than you can swim, but this is Survivor. Terry manipulated them into voting for Misty because she was too smart for his liking.

I think Shane is just messing with people on purpose. I mean NO one wants to keep him around, but they also all see value in keeping him until the end because of that fact. Think of Clay from Survivor Thailand. Everyone hated him and Brian capitalized on this. Imagine everyone's reaction when they find out that he has pulled one over on them. Gotta give it up to Misty for actually playing the game. Too bad she got the boot.

Why'd they get rid of Misty when it was Sally who lost the spear?!? It makes no sense to me.....

Heh. Aras said it perfect when he said something like " I allied myself with 3 lunatics."

I gotta give Misty credit for trying to work it with the guys. She saw the alliance and did what she had to, but it just wasn't enough.

What I would pay to see is Shane get sent to exile island. If you think he is crazy now, just wait till he has to spend a night on that unsheltered island. Especially if there is a storm.

My pick this week is Terry from La Mina as well. If I remember correctly, he caught like 3 or 4 of the balls for the tribe in order to get a bunch of supplies. And he snagged that fish as well.

As an addendum, I think that everyone on Casaya is dumb because they got to pick their tribemates and all they do is argue and act stupid. I can't take too much more from that Shane guy.
